Will the Real Aquaman Please Stand Up

Ever since HBO's Entourage featured a fictitious storyline surrounding a James Cameron-directed Aquaman film, there's been talk about bringing the underwater superhero to the big screen ... for real.
Apparently, according to four people familiar with the informal talks, Warner Brothers is interested in an Aquaman movie (apart from the recently squashed TV show), though they've denied any involvement. In a bizarre twist of life-imitating-art, uber-agent Ari Emanuel (whom Entourage's Ari Gold is based off of) is at the center of the whole thing. While James Cameron will not be involved, Charlie's Angels director McG is the name currently being tossed around.
While a pilot for the Aquaman TV show was produced by the folks who brought us Smallville, the WB decided not to pick it up. However, the studio subsequently gave the pilot to iTunes where the thing blew up, generating thousands of downloads and forcing some folks in the industry to reconsider Aquaman's further adventures. Which would you rather see: an Aquaman TV show a la Smallville or a big-budgeted feature film? Feel free to answer none of the above. I did.

How about neither? Aquaman, among comic folks, is easily the lamest of superheroes. Weeeee. He swims and talks to fish. That's the big whooping extent of his powers.

For years, I always hoped that "THOR" would have come to the big screen with now Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as Thor or a magical "Dr. Strange" but I got neither wish. I read Aquaman comics here and there, but, I think the "Sub-Mariner" would be a better movie.
Lastly, when I was a boy of about 10 or 12 years of age, I distinctly remember having a copies of Ironman, The Fantastic Four, Spiderman and others - all issue #1's. If I only knew how much they are worth now, I'd be retired!!!

How about an Aquaman film directed by Tim Burton? An underwater world imagined by TB would be interesting to see.

i watched the pilot this weekend and i was really
impressed. i think ving's performance may have killed this in the eyes of studio execs. his delivery was horrible and i couldn't imagine watching him every week tutoring AC. the rest of the cast though was actually really good (even AC himself who i had my doubts aboung being he was a soap actor) and it would have been great to see where they were going with the arc they were building. it's a shame it didn't get picked up. i just imagine with all of the superhero cameos that have been on Smallville and Green Arrow showing up this
season starting the justice league. crossover galore. big superhero action galore. youl dhave made a lot of geeks happy. oh well.

I like Aquaman. I also like the guy who was to play him in the series. He was on Passions, a soap that has suffered (really) since he left. I think a series offers more chance to develop a character and have him grow. Films now are so fast that you don't get to know the character.

I think that if Tim Burton did do this film he would be the best for it who ever mentioned that in the artical has a good point and the show on HBO is doing so good why not and use the same guy.

Aquaman... mmm...no. That works fine as a plotline for HBO but not in the real world. Submariner.. alot more interesting. Whichever one it is, you can guarentee that they'll be a sequel about how we are destroying the corel reef, oil spills are killing sea life, man is not taking care of the ocean floor... blah, blah, blah. You'd think that Submariner would come up from the ocean's depths and kick some dry butts around for using the ocean as a dumping ground. Aquaman wouldn't do that. He was a good character for the 50's but he is no longer relevant.

Aquaman could be a very good movie hero if handled properly. As a character, he is far more interesting than, say, "The Man From Atlantis". I will admit that a Sub-Mariner movie would be even better, especially since his powers are more intense and defined, but Aquaman (as depicted in "Justice League Unlimited", showing his super-strength and a definite superiority complex) would have his moments.

Aquaman is awersome, I'm glad they are planning to make this movie. He is the whole new thing of superhero protecting the oceans, and the sea. don't forget waters is more than lands, so it is a big job for a superhero . Come on people may think Aquaman is lame, well don't u tired of superhero protecting the city and stuff like spiderman, batman. We haven't see a superhero protecting the sea. Water is all around us don't u agree?? so i'm looking forward tot his movie and it can boost up DC comics. we don't want all of THe MARVEl comics to take the spotlight

Aquaman is kind of late. If it was to be done, it should have done years ago. Mark Spitz probaly would have been the perfect choice to play him.

I have to go along with Bob Hart's post. I was thinking of Prince Namor (Sub-Mariner)while I was reading Mr. Hart's post and then I read the line where he mention Sub-Mariner. Realistic was the storyline as I can remember about the Sub-Mariner. Not cartoonish like Aquaman. Prince Namor had a following much like Spider. That human element which meant so much to us back in the 60's. He was almost real to me because of the drawings, his love life, his loneliness. Aquaman never appealed to me the way Prince Namor did. I think one will need to go back and check out just what Mr Hart and I am speaking about. I think they missed the boat on this one. Prince Namor that is, not Aquaman.

yeah, i could care less about an Aquaman movie. as many stated, he's pretty much the lamest superhero. since most crime takes place ON LAND, what good is a superhero whose powers are only good in water? if he ever steps foot on land, he's pretty much fucked. what would be fight? ocean pollution? yeah, that makes for a thrilling action movie. besides, i think Captain Planet has that covered. :P

Aquaman would make a damn good film- IF taken seriously with attention paid to the many facets of his life and his many roles (King, hero, protector of the seas). There certainly is a way to create a film experience here that would be entirely unique. Sorry, I just passed my comic geek threshold. But it could RAWK!

Justin Hartley ROCKS!!!! Justin is playing Aquaman and he is an incredible actor. I watched him on Passions and always hoped that he'd move on to better things to showcase his talent more. He is incredible. Hopefully Aquaman is just the beginning for him. :)

I think its a great idea! I love entourage and think the movie would just be a boost for both, they should use the same actors that were in the fictious film on the entourage hbo show. its a cute money maker.
