Howard to Iron Man?

Jon Favreau may be putting the kibosh on those Tom-Cruise-is-Tony-Stark rumors, but not to worry: The kids at AICN have worked up another Iron Man rumor to take its place. Based on a series of secret "inside" sources and conclusions from fairly vague clues, AICN's Quint decided that Terrence Howard has been offered the role of James Rhodes, Stark's Viet Nam buddy, confidant and pilot (not to mention the man who takes over the Iron Man suit when Stark fakes his own death, and eventually becomes War Machine). There's really no way to know if this is true, short of Favreau or Howard themselves weighing in -- after all, even if someone else ends up in the role, it's easy to just say that Howard turned it down. From what I've read on the web (Which, by the way, is making me want to read all of the damn Iron Man comics -- is the series as cool as it sounds?), Rhodes is major player in Stark's life, and therefore is likely to be heavily featured in the movie. So, Iron Man fans, is Howard right for the role? (And do you even care at this point, as long as someone other than Cruise plays Stark?)

Howard would be perfect as Rhodey, then spin him off into a War Machine feature, that would be great.

I think Favreau has mentioned bringing in a strong actor for Rhodes in the first movie, for some later War Machine action. As much as I like the fact that he is interacting with the fans on MySpace, a lot of the info gets buried in the 80 pages of "Dude! Iroan Man rUleZ!!1!!1!" posts.
As for whether Iron Man is worth reading? Its had ups and downs. There are several trades of some of the major story lines. I've liked some of the recent stuff, especially Granov's design for the armor and Warren Ellis's writing. I've enjoyed the Ultimate Iron Man books better from a story line though.
In the main Marvel Universe you should pick up the current Civil War event books and probably at least he recent Extremis story arc. In the Ultimate Universe you should get the Iron Man solo trades and the Ultimates trades. There are a lot of good stories there.
As for Howard, he seems like a good choice.

Howard is perfect for the role of Rhodes. And, yeah, a War Machine spin-off would ROCK!

I can tell you that anything Terrence Howard does is going to be exceptional. He will be the one to watch throughout the story. I hope the rumors are true.

Hmmm .... well, Howard is always a good choice for any role, as far as I'm concerned. However, when considering this particular role, I don't see why other good Black actors couldn't be considered, such as Terry Crews (Chris Rock's father on "Everybody Hates Chris," as was mentioned before), Djimon Hounsou, Christopher B. Duncan ("24" and "The Jamie Foxx Show"), a slimmed down Michael Clarke Duncan, or hell, even Jamie Foxx himself. Let's be honest, there should be LOTS of good choices for James Rhodes.
Oh, hey, I can't forget Morris Chestnut. If I'd put anyone right up near the top of the list for this role, it'd be him. But of course, that's just me.
