Zooey is the Latest Janis

When we hear anything about Penelope Spheeris' Janis Joplin biopic Gospel According to Janis, it's always about the casting of the central role. Last year, the rumor was that Renee Zellweger had actually been offered the part, but (much to Karina's glee) wasn't sure about taking it (she didn't). Then came a parade of girl-names, from Courtney Love and Brittany Murphy to Lindsay Lohan, Pink and Scarlett Johansson (who I'm pretty sure is suggested to studio heads for any female role these days, just because the mere mention of her name makes them drool).Also in the most recent list of actresses allegedly seen by Spheeris was Zooey Deschanel, the pint-sized, singing actress who for some reason has all even slightly geeky boys eating out of the palm of her hand. Well, boys, it's possibly time to rejoice: The UK's Popbitch (an email newsletter) claims that Deschanel has officially won the part. Whether it's true or not remains to be seen -- it is a fact, however, that she's currently playing Liza Minnielli in Simply Halston, which in and of itself is pretty awesome. I just may be warming up to this Zooey character.

The best Janis Chaplin by far has been Ms."Bette Midler" in "The Rose". (If you have never seen it, do yourself a favor and rent it and watch it.)The Divine Ms. M. did such an awsome job on her very first feature film that she was honored with an Oscar Nomination.
That has been the best performance by any female playing a real life charater by far to this day.
Janis Choplin story need not to be told again, unless they're telling a different side from the one that was shown on The Rose. If needs to be told, think Zooey is an excellent choice.

it's JOPLIN..not chaplin or choplin and i kinda agree with joss stone. you need someone with and edgy look and zooey does not have that..she is a good actress, however, but not for JOPLIN's part. and for the one who commented: "who cares, she was just a druggie", GET A LIFE, you probably listen to john denver and think he's the best thing in music..idiot!! you probably have no friends and are a mental patient who may have never appreciated or had a radio! sad person you are!!!

Sorry to disillussion those that believe that Josh can portray Janis, but you have to hear how Janis could belt out the blues,not merely sing the blues.
Those alternate choices to play her were great, but
remember that whomever is to play her must have
acting skill also so you can believe she is really
