Jude Law as General Zod?

Whether you want it or not, director Bryan Singer is confirmed to be working on a Superman Returns sequel (which I've gone ahead and titled Superman Returns With Less Make-Up ... Hopefully). Ever since Singer suggested we may be seeing an "alien villain" in that follow-up, folks have been passing around a rumor about General Zod returning to exact revenge upon the Man of Steel.
Well, according to Star Pulse, a tipster told The Daily Express that Singer does indeed plan on using General Zod as his main villain in the sequel. Not only that but, apparently, he's looking to throw Jude Law into the role. (Originally, Terence Stamp played a wicked General Zod in Superman 2.) Says the tipster, "Some say they should use an unknown but the director Bryan Singer is looking at Jude. The similarities between him and Stamp are clear."
Now, you may remember Jude Law turned down the role of Superman when it was offered to him two years ago for fear it would typecast him forever. It's also the same reason he would never step into the shoes of James Bond. However, this is a completely different scenari,o as Law would probably only have to come on for one film. Personally, I like the choice, though I expect a slew of other names to hit the streets before anything is official. What say you?

I don't have any strong feelings either way about this, Law's at his best when he's playing the bastard so I suppose he's a good choice. But does this mean singer's given up on keeping his films with in the continuity of the first two films? Cos didn't Zod sort of, well, die at the end of superman 2? Or at least end up buried undered several hundred feet of ice?

Eh General Zod....I mean no problem with the character, but in another movie..jeez. Really seems Singer is recollecting old ideas from the Donner films and not the comics. I mean I know he basing these films off the Donner films, but I don't know....why not try basing off the comics? That is the trend lately with comics, but I guess Singer doesn't feel like doing that. Does he realize that the idea of the Superman films from Donner came from the comics? lol.

Doesn't matter to me who will play Zod in the Superman sequel---IF it ever happens. If Superman Returns is any indication, it will probably suck anyway. I wonder what they will do in the sequel--maybe they will reveal that Zod is Kal-el's real father. Or maybe say that Zod had a one night stand with Lois Lane, and that he's the kid's real father. Whatever the plot is, I'm sure it will put the icing on the lame cake.

Well I for one will not pay to see this if it ever sees the light of day. Making another rehash Singer? Very original, how the hell does this guy keep getting work?

Well, he keeps getting work because the first two X-Men movies were very good, as was the Usual Suspects.
I didn't think Superman Returns was that great, either, but honestly the project had so much baggage and false starts, it was better than I expected.
But X2 is still one of the best superhero movies so far.

Great ZOD! Man Singer has not one ounce of originality in him!
Let him just copy each of the older movies, and give us 4 cheap rip off movies... Singer is a HACK!
His writtin team are HACKS, and Routh is a cheap water down Chris Reeve look alike.
This is why this SR movie failed, and why the sequel will bomb even worse!

I agree with those who are tired of all the rehashing. Joker has already been done,as was Zod. Hollywierd has lost it`s creativity, and has slid into mediocrity. Singer was great with the X-Men,but he sucks with Superman; I also hope that the Batman film folks reconsider their asinine decision to cast Heath Ledger as the Joker. Cast him as another Batman villian if you have to. There`s plenty of them who have never been on film. They just brought Batman back from film hell after Joel Schumacher sent him there;now they wanna ruin him by redoing the Joker? PATHETIC.
4 Tips for the next Superman movie:
1) Get rid of that rediculous costume and bring back Superman`s REAL one.
2) Get a new Lois Lane and dump the kid.
3) Lex Luthor doesn`t need to be in EVERY Superman film. What about Brainiac,Darkseid,or the Cyborg Superman?
4) This one needs a MUCH better storyline.

I agree. It's a shame to waste such a deep history of storylines by rehashing the late 70's campy attempt. I tried to have my 12 year old son watch Supes I & II and he just couldn't get into them, too boring. He thought SR was much better, but lacks the perpective. I read the Superman Lives script by Kevin Smith and thought that was well done, with Brainiac and Luthor working (tentatively) together, much like Lex and Bruce Wayne in Kingdom Come miniseries (now THERE's a good movie waiting to be made). Brainiac is deserving to be the next Superman villain - not a rehash of Zod. Same for the Joker, but I can see where they are going with that reboot, so I hold out hope for a real twisted take on Joker. We shall see. DC has only begun to live up to Marvels standards with Batman Begins.(and won't "Dark Knight" as a title have fans thinking it's about the old, semi-retired Batman from the Miller graphic novel?)
