Peter Jackson: Martial Arts Master?
Filed under: Action, RumorMonger, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand, Peter Jackson
By now, I'm sure most of you are aware of that Jackie Chan is supposedly teaming up with Jet Li to star in a film tentatively titled The J&J Plan. (Here at Cinematical, we're desperately trying not to let that awful title ruin our expectations of what's sure to be a very cool movie. Yeah, so please change the title. And fast.)
Though nothing is set in stone yet (I believe the actors are waiting to see how good the script turns out), rumors of a possible director are starting to surface. And yes, as you can tell from the title of this post, the director in question is none other than Peter Jackson. Um, seriously. According to Monkey Peaches via a story in the Beijing-based Star Daily, an anonymous insider claims Jackson is in talks to direct the pic.
Personally, I can see the dude coming on as producer, but there's no way Peter Jackson is directing a Jackie Chan/Jet Li movie, right? Am I wrong to think that way? The paper also reports that Jet Li has been offered $9 million to play villain in the pic, which means Chan will take on the role of hero. Hey, screw Jackson -- I'm sure this flick will kick so much ass, it won't matter who steps behind the camera.

Remember when Peter Jackson made good movies (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110005/)? That was awesome.

As much as Jackson is a competant director, I'd he seems a bit too reliant on CGI effects to be a decent martial arts director. Gimme Yuen Wo-ping or Sammo Hung for a project like this.

It would be absolutely impossible for me to put less credence in this report.
But I guess if "Monkey Peaches" says so...

For what it's worth, Dan, Monkey Peaches is a pretty reliable site when it comes to Asian film. Plus, in this case it's not their story, they're just reporting what the local press is printing.

Jackson should do a film on dieting since he seems so good at it. The many obese people in the US would benefit from such a film.

no way in hell. producer...maybe...director....hell no. Love or hate his movies, jackson is very much at the top of his game. Now is no time to start directing modern terrible martial arts movies. Especially if he can keep getting away with 3 hour long masterbatory films.
