Bruno Kirby Dies - BREAKING NEWS
Filed under: New Releases, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand, Obits
We lost a great actor today, folks. At the age of 57, Bruno Kirby has passed away due to complications related to leukemia, after recently being diagnosed with the disease. Most of you probably remember Kirby as Billy Crystal's best pal in, personally, one of my favorite romantic comedies of all time, When Harry Met Sally. Or as Robin Williams' strict, yet hilarious nemesis in Good Morning, Vietnam.
Then you have one of his more classic roles as the wise-cracking New Yawker in City Slickers. As the news of his death hit me, the first image that popped into my head was that of a scene from Slickers when Kirby, Billy Crystal and Daniel Stern are out on the open range complaining about that annoying blinking VCR clock. Fed up with the conversation, Kirby goes, "Shut up! Just shut up! He doesn't get it! He'll never get it! It's been 4 hours! The cows can tape something by now! Forget about it please!"
I will never forget about that performance, and we will never forget about Bruno Kirby. Farewell my good man. Farewell.

Dang. He really did play a great "buddy" on screen. I, too, thought immediately of "When Harry Met Sally," which the wife and I watched just last week. RIP, indeed.

I always loved his performance in The Freshman, which is itself an under-appreciated gem of the 90's...

Wow. I just saw him a few weeks ago at the Arclight in Hollywood. He looked perfectly healthy. A real shocker, this news.
I'll bring up Godfather II, one of his early roles. That one etched him into my brain forever.
We'll miss him.

He was an excellent character actor - the very first thing i ever saw the young mr. kirby in was an episode of "columbo", and the rest, as they say, is show biz history. RIP Bruno.

He came to speak to a group of communication majors, including myself, at La Salle University in Philly during my Freshman year. I thought it was great that he took the time to come and share his experiences and to answer students' questions. He was a very talented actor. May you rest in peace Bruno.

He was on Entourage recently and I thought he was phenominal and was looking forward to seeing more of him. I am totally shocked and saddened by the news. As most everyone else commented - When Harry Met Sally is my favorite romantic comedy. Baby Fish Mouth is classic, but I also loved the scene with the "wagon wheel coffee table". You will be missed! My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Kirby's family and friends.

He had a small but pivotal role in DONNIE BRASCO, playing the quintessential jolly Mafia prick a la Joe Pesci, but warmer and sweeter. He'll be missed.

Ah, the 'lotsa parking meters in Florida' wisecrack in Donnie Brasco was great. Nobody's mentioned his fabulous small role in Tin Men, though? Or was it just that everybody in that movie was fabulous?
