Dark Knight Update: A New Look for Batman?
Filed under: Action, RumorMonger, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
In case you're interested (like I really need to ask), a few little tidbits regarding The Dark Knight have popped up online recently. Wanna know what they are? Read on fellow Bat-fans:
- Superhero Hype recently spoke with producer Chuck Roven about all sorts of Bat-related nonsense and, if one thing's for sure, you're not getting much out of this dude. While he refused to comment on any and all rumors, Roven did talk a bit about Heath Ledger being cast as The Joker. Says Roven, "We're really thrilled about Heath Ledger playing The Joker. As Chris Nolan said, the great thing about Heath is he commits himself fully and totally to everything he does. He's just a brilliant, brilliant actor and you know this Joker is a very interesting dark fellow."
- In terms of the film's production schedule, Roven said the plan is to begin with a "preshoot" next January, with the bulk of filming starting in March.
- The good folks over at Batman On Film have been cruising through the gossip rags where they've stumbled upon some Katie Holmes dirt via Sympatico. Turns out, the actress has already begun training for her role in The Dark Knight, after being told she would need to be ready by January. Aside from taking on a strict diet, Holmes is keeping herself busy with a ton of yoga and kick-boxing. Unfortunately, it appears as if her role in the sequel will be pretty large.
- Finally, a tipster wrote in to Batman On Film claiming they've heard Batman's costume will be altered for the sequel, in an attempt to mimic the changes Bruce Wayne would make as time evolved. Says the tipster, "The appearance will not change dramatically, but will be lighter and sleeker than the one in Batman Begins. It may also be constructed to look more like heavyweight fabric and armour than rubber."

I like the idea of the Batsuit evolving. I don't like the idea of Katie Holmes getting any more screentime. Arguably, she kept the original film from being 5 star.
And Heath's casting still feels like a studio decision, and not a particularly good one at that.
I am interested to learn how The Tumbler will be modified...

I hope the Batmobile remains as it was.
I also hope that Holmes is killed off by the Joker in which this will make Batman subsequently kill him...either way just please kill off Holmes because she ruins the film.

PLEASE get Katie Holmes out of this franchise. I don't even want to see a "Scream" style quick exit; I don't want to see her at all.
I liked her in "Pieces of April," I guess, and on "Dawson's Creek," but she totally weirds me out now with the whole Cruise zombie routine.

Modify the suit and modify the tumbler, but just a bit. Nothing stupid like ribs with a blue neon engine, or nipples for God's sake. Batman always upgraded his weapons and gagets with the passing time. And Katie Holmes didn't neccesarily stink up the joint on the first film, but I was seriously hoping she would just dissapear in the next just like Kim Basinger.

Katie Holmes' character isnt even based on one from the comic book series. Warner Brothers just needed to throw in a stupid love story in order to make the flick accessable to a larger audience. If you're gonna have a female lead, at least cast someone who can act. Holme's wasnt a believeable D.A. at all. She has no acting chops; every interaction she has with Christian Bale was wishy washy. I could go on with my rantings, but like Katie Holmes herself, its a waste of time and effort.

the fact that they're going to change his outfit i think is dumb. even with the new film and the old one, the suits are pretty similar. by i think by far in the original batman, that was the best suit. and as far as Katie Holmes goes, i don't mind that she's in it. the fact that they're giving her a large portion of screen time isn't really smart. i would really like to see a lot more action and actually get to see batman in this one because in Batman Begins, sadly i was a little dissapointed. Although you get to see the transformation of batman and how he bacame, they still could have let the audience see more of him and more fighting

K i hate Tom Cruise...not as an actor i think hes a pretty good actor but as a person hes a freak. Katie Holmes didn't bother me in BB i mean her acting was good and the character wasn't bad. And who said BB wasn't 5 stars....um dude yeah it was. Heath Ledger as The Joker...i believe that the Studio wouldn't even fuck around with messing the Batman Franchise up so i believe this was Nolans decision and im betting that Nolan also did a costume test before hand and anyways i have complete confidence in Nolan and believe the Dark Knight will be just as good as the first one.

He can't kill The Joker because The Joker is in a later movie.
I don't care if Kaite is in the movie. She's cute and fun to look at, even if she's married to a whackjob. Now, say Lindsay Lohan is in the movie and I'll be sure to avoid it.

Katie is cute, but her side-talkin' is a distraction.
I'm surprised nobody tagged her with the name "NGage" over it. Then again, she's sorta overshadowed by the kookiness of her current boyfriend.

Whooooaaa I cant believe Heath Ledger is the Joker and Ryan Phillippe as the possible Harvey Dent but I will give TPTB the benefit of the doubt. I take them anytime than the horrors of the earlier movies and that HB Catwoman. Egads! WOOOOOO-HOOOOO that Kate is reprising Miss Dawes. Miss Dawes is the HOT inside and out as a Batman leading lady. Other than Batsy she's my hero too.
She actually looks better with Bale than Tom. Ooops did I say that out loud? I better get into the witness protection program because Agent Hunt will haunt me down.

It will be interesting to see the changed to the Batsuit and see how the changes they will do to the Wayne Manor and Batmobile too. Im hoping its not too much.
This weekend its time to heal because maybe Im wrong about Heath Ledger. Im looking forward to see the main cast return and glad about Holmes comeback. I like her,her character and relationship with Bruce Wayne. Its hard to imagine the franchise without Rachel too and Batman should not follow the different babe format.

As long as Nolan is still onboard Im watching Batman.
They better not drop the ball and I want more screentime about Bruce Wayne, alfred and Gordon.
Hats off to TPTB that they're bringing back Kate Holmes. Rachel is so cool. She looks good onscreen with Bruce Wayne. Bale looks a bit like Tommy.
