Flags of Our Fathers Trailer
Filed under: Drama, Foreign Language, Warner Brothers, Movie Marketing, Cinematical Indie
The first trailer for Clint Eastwood's Iwo Jima duo, Flags of Our Fathers and Red Sun, Black Sand (which might now be called Letters from Iwo Jima), has shown up on Warner Bros.' Japanese website, and it's pretty impressive. The footage is so washed-out that it often looks black and white (interestingly, the film's visual tone closely resembles that of Aleksandr Sokurov's The Sun, another movie about Japan at the end of World War II), and everything about it suggests sorrow, tension and majesty, rather than the explosions and action more typical of war films. If the preview (which apparently is for both films) is an accurate representation of the films themselves, Eastwood might really have made something special. Go take a look and let us know what you think -- just don't expect visceral thrills.Flags of Our Fathers comes out October 20; Red Sun, Black Sand/Letters from Iwo Jima will be released in December.

This is a winner. Another oscar?
I mean, it shows both sides in a way that is respectful to both, and yet peaks the curiousity.
I know I'll wath Flags of our Fathers, and instantly want to see Red Sun, Black Sand. I wonder if they will time the releases together.
This is smart marketing, AND saves on budget, AND gets two seperate target audiences, who might even in turn watch both films!
