NO, NO, NO! When will studios stop bastardizing Jim Carrey's movies? After the monumental box office and critical failure of Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd and Son of the Mask, you would think they woul figure out that that you can't do a sequel to a Jim Carrey movie...without Jim Carrey. Apparently not...becuae we have Evan Almighty and now this to "look forward to." Geez, what's next: Liar Liar 2: Lie Harder, in which Fletcher's son Max is unable to lie for 24 hours?

If they don't try to market it to adults and just go for a kids movie it might just work. Then again, it has all the potenial to jump the Sharkgirl and Lava Boy.

this could be a good idea, if only and i want to say that again "if only" they get jim carrey to be in it and make it a passing of the torch....you know whats sad though is they will probably find a way to pass it to someone who isnt really at all funny, which is of course the biggest problem dilemna holding a feature like this back anyways. like the sequal to dumb and dumber....that was a sad day for comedy right there.

Whyyy cant they just leave the "Ace Venture" legacy ALONE! I want to rememeber "Ace Venture" the same way I used to remember "Dumb and Dumber" and "The Mask", as a classic movie. Those two movies have already been slightly tarnished with the releases of "dumb and dumberer" and "son of the mask" ... which, as far as I know, both flopped. I just hope that we're not going to see this happen to any another Jim Carrey movies in the future ... Id hate to see a "CABLE GUY 2 --- Sattelite man".

Evan Almighty I think can work because it was a concept movie and Steve Carrell is a good actor. Ace Ventura 3, however, will not work. I distinctly remember reading somewhere that after Jim Carrey did Ace Ventura 2, he sweared off doing sequels to his own movies. So, the chance of him showing up in the 3rd movie is slim to none. And if he doesn't show up, count another bomb for the sequel without Jim Carrey camp.

There are lots of good original ideas in Hollywood. The problem is that no one with the ability to greenlight a film wants to hear them.

They seem to think that name recognition alone will drive people to the theaters. There is enough evidence out that there to prove that it doesn't work but what's a little thing like logic got to do with anything.

And, I wouldn't be surprised if some studio exec were perusing this blog and thinking "Liar, Liar 2: Lie Harder" Great idea!!! And "Snakes on a Pet Detective" is pure genius. Look for both releases in 2008! LOL!

Going back to the well when other projects run dry is common enough in Hollywood. Weirdly enough, I initially misread "eccentric detective's son" as "egocentric."

I really believe that HollyWood could really go without doing this movie. Without Jim Carrey It is going to flop plain and simple. Until they realize that they can expect less people to be content with the movies coming out and more likely to wait until it is available on the bootleg market.

OMG....come one Hollywood!!! Ace Ventura without Jim Carrey???? Pure idiocy! I'm so tired of these sequels without the original people in them. If the movies were such a huge hit, it is because of the people that played the characters in the movie!!!! You can't just up n go and make another with completely different people. That ruins it! I refuse to watch sequels when they don't have any of the original cast in them, it just makes it boring and stupid. They waste their money on movies they think will make it big, but are lacking the actual characters that made the movie big in the first place! Learn from your mistakes Hollywood!!!!!

In response to Robert's question about "What's next?".....the next Jim Carrey movie being bastardized is "Bruce Almighty." The "sequel" is "Evan Almighty," currently filming at Universal Studios and starring Stevel Carell.

I almost got excited when I saw there was going to be a third one! But then I saw that it was going to be focussing on his son and I did indeed groan. It will probably have some random actor doing his best Jim Carrey impression through out the movie.
It's like the kid in American Pie: Bandcamp doing his freaking Sean William Scott impression through the movie.
That does not sell and it's never funny.

well, i disagree that they will get carey to show up for five minutes. he didn't show up for son of mask, nor for dumb and dumberer. in fact, he was annoyed that either was made!

and especially with the major flop of son of the mask, why do it?
