Is Dominic Purcell the New Incredible Hulk?
Filed under: Action, Casting, RumorMonger, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, Comic/Superhero/Geek
As this is my first post on this topic, let me just say how excited I am to see Marvel rolling the dice on a new Incredible Hulk film. There's no reason why Ang Lee's stinker should immediately erase all chances of ever seeing the green dude back on the big screen. He's a great character and one of Marvel's most successful comic book franchises -- why not give the guy a chance?
Anyway, rumors have been swirling as to who will take over for Eric Bana in the role. To date, folks like Brendan Fraser, Dominic Purcell and Adam Garcia have been mentioned as possibilities. Well, today Dominic Purcell was a guest on a local radio show here in New York and he was asked whether there was any truth to his involvement in the next Hulk flick. AICN has the actual audio from the interview, and based on his weird answer, it definitely sounds like he's our guy. I imagine he's currently in negotiations to star and can't really get into it. Hey, I like the guy on Prison Break -- he certainly has that quiet, intriguing, "What's up with this guy?" persona. Good choice? Bad move? Thoughts?

He would definitly be a bigger badass and more broodier than Eric Bana. So yeah, he'll be a good choice.

He already looks like the Hulk. Who would play Bruce Banner? HA!

If anyone has seen Blade 3 you know that he is a fine choice. Purcell has already proven that he can be tough (Blade 3), quiet (John Doe) and a little messed up (Prison Break). Why not combine all 3?

I agree with Porchland. Why can't they ever start with Bruce Banner, especially since the Hulk will be CGI anyway? No one will believe for an instant that this guy graduated high school algebra let alone be a world class physicist. Or, for that matter, need an alter ego to release his pent-up frustrations.

Agree with Cath. Purcell exudes thug and not intelligence. Plus the guy's a lousy actor compared to most but compared to Bana that's just insanely bad.

Don't know what Gail was thinking...Blade 3? This guy played Dracula, perhaps one of the greatest movie villians ever...and he came off as just brainless eurotrash...hooray, but no thank you. And I agree with the rest, is this guy going to be on a no protein diet until he sheds off all that muscle? Banner is a skinny wimp...excuse me, I mean a puny human. Puny this guy ain't.

Bad choice for the Hulk, perhaps a villian in the Hulk would be more appropriate. Whatever happened to the articles I have read that confirmed David Duchovny as taking over for Eric Bana and it being a direct to video release. This is not even mentioned here.

I think he is a great actor (I miss John Doe), and I think he will work for Banner, but I do prefer a little more mousy Banner for contrast. Not necessarily a weaselly Banner like in the Ultimate Universe, but someone a little less buff.
I think he can pull of brainy and geeky (John Doe once again) though his more recent stuff has been more tough guy based.
Hell if he wants to do a Marvel character why not send him over the the Iron Man guys. I don't think they have a Stark yet.

Oh dear god don't suggest him for Stark. That'd be worse than him playing Banner - which is already a pretty appalling concept.
Eric Bana was okay, if maybe a tad smug. But I think they might need to find some newbie.

OK. Ang Lee's "Hulk" was more than a stinker. It was a box office disaster and, in my opinion, the worst super hero movie ever made, or at least the worst super movie I've ever seen. And it's going to take me a long time to stop associating the Hulk with this terrible snooze fest. Making another "Hulk" anytime within the same decade as that one is just a stupid idea, no matter who plays the character.

Dominic is a great actor and if Blade 3 did poorly, it was the writers and directors fault, not his acting. I LOVE him in Prison Break. I think he'll be a great hulk because he's a great actor. Heck, I'd watch him watch paint dry for all I care. He's a brooding, great looking actor and he's got a lot of positives in his forecast.

Hey think that would be pretty cool! Since he is pretty built and if they are gonna pull an oldies like the T.V shows then they might not have to do much work and nto make it seem chessy! In the result that they would have to pack ALOT of more mussle on. Like the Last movie he was not that built in regular form anyway, so they realy were forced to pack more on but then they did do a good job i am not saying their not! I think though with the "HULK" dogs and cats were kinda making just alittle over the top just saying! Peace xoxox

I actually agree with Stephanie, It's not his fault that Blade Trinity was absolute garbage. Blame David Goyer for it was his first time directing, blame the studio for trying to appeal to the IPod generation, lastly blame the casting director for hiring wrestlers. I say give the guy a chance, after all I don't see too many actors in line to nail the lead role in a reboot, sequel, whatever they want to call it that was the disaster of the fist film.

I agree with everyone else about the movie Hulk. I have never seen it, but from what i saw on thr previews, it made him look like some big monster thing, not a man who got really angry.LOL. Nothing like the tv show I liked. I used to be so scared of it when I was little.LOL

Bill Bixby? OMG, please, that guy was a DB. People don't want to see some skinny wimp with the only appealing aspect being his eyes. I'd rather see a revamped Hulk, not some throwback like the new Superman movie (was good, but could have been so much better).

Bill Bixby cannot be touched as David Banner. The real disaster was not Ang Lee's Hulk (although that sucked).
It was the increasingly awful 3 TV Hulk movies made with Bill Bixby after the series was cancelled.

No way. Are you kidding me? You need someone a little bigger for the hulk. Maybe The Rock or someone like that.
