Cruise, Wagner Fight Back
Filed under: Deals, Paramount, Celebrities and Controversy, Newsstand, Tom Cruise
Though no one at Cruise/Wagner Productions was available for comment when Paramount announced they were dumping the duo -- at least in part because company partner Tom Cruise's "recent conduct has not been acceptable" -- they're talking now. And, not surprisingly, no one at C/W is very happy with how things went down. Paula Wagner herself characterized the above comment by Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone as "outrageous and disrespectful," while Cruise's agent (and Wagner's husband) Rick Nicita described Redstone's words as "shockingly offensive and graceless." Not only did she denounce Redstone's behavior, but Wagner went on the say that Cruise was in fact the one who broke off negotiations with Paramount last week. According to Wagner, she and Cruise have already "raised a revolving fund of $100 million from two hedge funds" to financing future projects. Also, his agents told the press that Cruise has already decided on his next starring role (What? Why has no one told us about this?), and is currently in negotiations with a studio home for the film.Take that, Sumner.

And once again CruiseCo. demonstrates the utter lack of tact and self-awareness that got him into this mess in the first place. If you're going to be a stand-up wacko don't be shocked when folks pull the plug on you hard, dude...

I still can't believe that they had the balls to SAY THAT about Tom Cruise. I mean... he's TOM CRUISE. He can destroy anyone in Hollywood just by looking at them!

I have inside info that T.C.'s next starring role will be in a buddy movie with Mel Gibson. They play two Scientologists working together to ferret out a group of Jews led by Larry David and Mell Brooks who have infiltrated and are trying to take over the Scientology movement.

We all like to make fun, but it looks like C/W is right here. The numbers don't lie. He did everything he could to sabotage Mission: Impossible 3 and it still waltzed past the $100M mark. Tom Cruise will be back again, and people will still line up to watch.

The best way for an actor to handle a situation like this is to either shut up or stick to the "regret to have encountered irreconcilable differences" defense. The more you pitch a bitch, the less likely you will work down the road. Actors need studios a hell of a lot more than studios need actors.

So Sumner Redstone's not able to voice an opinion about his business, but Tom Cruise is allowed to shove his Scientology crap down everybody's throat? What nonsense! Just because he's successful at his craft and also very popular doesn't allow him to tell people what to do. Whatever happened to humility? Opinions are fine, but he's gone beyond that. Speaking of opinions, about this Scientology stuff: I think L. Ron Hubbard sat down after taking some acid, and said, "Lemme make some stuff up and see how many stupid motherfuckers I can get to believe it!"

It is so sad, that guy (Tom Cruise), who claims to be so smart, can be such a jackass. He is so full of himself. I really feel so sorry for Katie, she certainly could have done better. For a movie that grossed so much, War of the Worlds stunk. The only reason it made as much as it did was because of the hipe. Everyone was courious. I for one wasted my money. the same goes for Mission Impossible, I'd rather watch the old TV series. Now that was a program.

Tom Cruise can take it when someone tells the truth about him.

I am appalled at the comments I read regularly basting Tom Cruise. He has done absolutely nothing to deserve any of the negative publicity here. The media in fact is at fault as usual...prying into other folks personal business. His excitement on the Oprah Whinfrey show was absolutely normal behavior for someone utterly in love considering his extroverted type of personality (something most actors have in common)! All of you have done similar stupid love inspired acts which could be blown up in YOUR face if they were made public! He is perfectly normal and I feel it is an unjustified remark to claim he is a wacko. His decisions regarding his family, baby Suri, and Kate are HIS business! I admire him for protecting his family from the vultures! At least he believes in something whether it is Scientology or not! He certainly has the right to exclaim the positive aspects of what it has done for him. Personally I wish he would take a deeper look at Christ, but that is between him and his maker and he should not be subjected to ridicule from others. Your are all perfect statistical idiots who have to kick and claw at the person on the top to knock them down. So sorry for your luck, but I believe Tomcat lands on his feet regularly. Jealousy is surely an ugly thing!

Andrea, that was the first genuinely nice comment I've seen from a non-Scientologist regarding Cruise. Your ability to demonstrate religious tolerance in the face of a Cruise bashing frenzy is something to be admired.
