More on Mortal Kombat 3

One of the first films I ever watched with surround-sound in a movie theater was the original Mortal Kombat. Back then, I was one of many teenagers obsessed with playing the video game, squaring off against my best buddies in an attempt to pull off some sick and twisted fight move. And so, when the film came out, my friends and I were among the first to attend a midnight showing. Talk about an extreme moviegoing experience -- the freaking sound on that puppy nearly blew us all away.
While I never managed to catch the sequel, I'm sure all you Mortal Kombat nuts will be happy to hear they're taking chances on a third installment. Tentatively titled, Mortal Kombat: Devastation, it appears the folks in charge want to go the prequel route, focusing in on an unlikely hero -- Sub-Zero. Apparently, they want to dig deep into the past, back when Sub-Zero was a good guy, and not some blue-masked dude out to freeze all those who stand in his way.
However, according to the Unofficial Mortal Kombat 3 website, actor Robin Shou (who plays Liu Kang in both Kombat pics) isn't so happy about the news and will not be reprising his role in a third film. Says Shou, "Apparently, Sub-Zero will be the new hero. How'd that come about? Nobody knows. As if my character never existed. I haven't read the script but the word out there was... bad." Okay, not for nothing, but the other two Mortal Kombat script were, um good?

It no longer lists it at imdb, but I know that Drew McWeeny (AICN's Moriarty) and Scott Swan wrote a draft for the third movie, but I guess that got abandonded.

The first movie was a lot of fun. The second was a mess. There is a lot of mythology to be mined from the games. My son likes to play one of the recent ones in "story mode," learning about the characters, their pasts, and their powers. All they need is a good script and a decent budget. I'll be interested to see how this develops.

I remember taking my little brother and a couple of his friends to the first movie, they loved it, I thought it was OK, but the soundtrack is really good. From what I've seen of the second (on cable) its a total mess.
Didn't a video game company (midway,EA?) do the same thing when they tried to launch "solo" adventures for the characters and decided to start with SubZero for the PS2?? Someone involved with Mortal Kombat must really love Subzero...

First film = entertaining fluff. Second film = awful, awful shite. 'Scuse my language.
Not holding out on this one, then.
Or, for that matter, the forthcoming films of Dead Or Alive or Tekken. As Streetfighter showed, fighting games rarely make good films. Or even mediocre films, for that matter.

MORTAL KOMBAT ACTORS.
Most of the Mortal Kombat characters will return and of them won't be,somehow Robin Shou will not return as Liu Kang and they say Sub Zero will be the Hero, thats alot of bullshit, the script is currently still in works there is no news yet if Shou is asked to rejoin the cast then he would have to,Chris Lambert is returning as Raiden and Chris Casamassa is returning as Scorpion and other actors are in talks
including Ray Park is in talks as Reiko,Matthias Hues as Fujin,Paolo Montalban to play the young Kung Lao,
I don't know if Talisa Soto will return as Kitana but another actress Andreea Radutoiu will have to be Kitana for the third film.
Thank You.
