Who Gets the Kids? The Custody Battle Between Cruise/Wagner and Paramount.
Filed under: Deals, Executive shifts, Paramount, Celebrities and Controversy, Tom Cruise
Now that all the rapid-fire excitement over who did what to whom in the Tom Cruise/Paula Wagner split from longtime home Paramount has quieted down a little, Variety has slipped in an article that actually discusses something of relevance: Who gets the projects? C/W had numerous projects in the works for Paramount, and even more rights to books and scripts sitting on a shelf somewhere gathering dust (ah, Hollywood, where all the cool kids snatch up hot properties before anyone else can get them, only to sit on them ad infinitum).
According to the Variety piece, C/W had acquired some promising properties, including a script being written for Cruise by A Good Year scribe Marc Klein, and Carter Beats the Devil, a novel about a magician being adapted by Little Miss Sunshine screenwriter Michael Arndt (this must be the big season for films about magicians, what with The Illusionist and The Prestige both opening soon). For those of you who are actually interested in the business side of Hollywood, the article gives some interesting background on the effects of the executive shift at Paramount under Brad Grey. At any rate, it certainly beats reading yet another "they said/no, we said" story about the C/W-Paramount split.

I LOVE TOM CRUISE!!! And I don't buy all the tabloid and media slander that has gone on these days. They take EVERYTHING he does and twist it into a negative light, just to suit their pro-psychiatry and anti-religious agenda. Having recently fired a client of mine that was a member of the press because of their pharmaceutical sponsors was one of the best moves I ever made.
ROCK ON TOM!! YOU DESERVE ALL THE SUCCESS IN THE WORLD!!!

Tom Cruise does rock! The criticism of Tom is so overblown. Most women would be very flattered if their man publicly revered them as much as Tom does Katie. Tom's behavior is much more sane than some stars whose behavior involves throwing phones, getting in cars and driving in an intoxicated state, going in an out of rehab, and so forth.
If I remember correctly, Tom also said Brooke was a very talented women, or words to that effect (you seldom hear that repeated by the media). The funny thing about the Brooke thing is Tom didn't even bring the subject up in the Today Show interview. It was Matt Lauer who asked Tom about it. Tom merely answered with candor. His main criticism of Brooke was she was advocating the use of Paxil by writing and marketing a book about it. I happen to agree with Tom, especially when you look at the history of Paxil (which is banned in the UK for children under 18 because of the increased risk of suicide). Even the FDA has slammed ALL antidepressants with the toughest possible warnings - the so-called black box warning. One main side effect of these drugs is suicide. Personally, I think it's okay to be a bit outspoken about drugs that can kill you, especially when the FDA makes the drugs companies put a label on the box that effectively says these drugs can kill you. Anyway, the black box warnings are the most flagrant type of warning and the last step before the drugs come off the market for good. And I'm sure that will eventually occur.
Anyway, Tom has his head and heart in the right place and will be successful at whatever he does. My guess is this silly power play will hurt the studios, Paramount in particular. Tom has a lot more friends than the octagenarian executive who claims to have fired him. Certainly there is some evidence already that suggests the Creative Arts Agency that represents Tom and many, many other big names, will not be so anxious to deal with Paramount from hereon. That sort of repurcussion is certainly not in Paramount's or Viacom's interest (or their shareholders). That could be a very expensive move in the long run. I'm sure Cruise/Wagner will flourish way more without Paramount. Tom is a winner, which is perhaps why some don't like him. I'm sure Cruise/Wagner will make a ton of money for all involved and then it will become obvious who won and who lost.

Everytime you, the consumer, buy a ticket for a Tom Cruise movie, say US$8.00,
Tom Cruise takes $1.86 from your ticket into his bank account.
Paying a movie star a salary is huge salary, now ranging anywhere from $5 million to $20 million per movie may be fine, however,( this may change with time???) when the actor gets a huge cut from the gross box office earnings, it is not financially viable to keep him on.
It is worse when Tom Cruise, an actor,( with no medical training) begins to dictate to Matt Laur of the TODAY SHOW, that Brooke Shields should not take medication for her post-partum depression.
That is totally not acceptable and outrageous when an Actor begins to lecture his audience about his faith- in this case- Scientology, and silent births.

As a consumer of the medical profession, one should know how to identify a QUACK! One doesn't have to BE a doctor to do that. A "Doctor" who makes guesses without the ability to back them up by hard evidence is a QUACK!!! And that's what both psychiatry and psychology are - QUACKERY! No amount of closing your eyes and ears and clinging to belief in the utterances of false authorities is is ever going to change the facts. Tom Cruise knows his stuff.
Brooke Shields is a sweet woman, but she's been lied to (and lied to and lied to) by her doctors. She should demand to see the tests that proved she had a chemical imbalance to correct, and that the drugs actually corrected it. Finding no such evidence, she should sue them into the ground.

Cruise is not a really great actor, one of the real shaekespearian world. He is good in some of his pictures.
But his afflicting desire to sell scientology is too bad. His blindness regarding that cult too.
Scientology founder Hubbard was convicted to 4 years unsupended jail for fraud and extortion in a french court because of his scientology activities.
How come he does never mention it, neither does he mention the real purposes of scientology: money and power over the planet?
