Spike TV Has Its Own Crazy Movie Awards!

Well, this is weird. For the bulk of my 30+ years on this planet, there's been no such thing as a "televised horror awards" presentation, and now, not 15 minutes removed from geeking out over the newly-announced Fangoria Chainsaw Awards nominations -- I come across the Spike TV Scream Awards nominations! Cool! Now, with all due respect to Spike TV and their cool new concept, I gotta say the Fango Chainsaw noms are just a little bit cooler. But hey, there's no law that says the horror freaks can't hang their hat on TWO new awards presentations. Frankly I think we could use a few more enthusiastic celebrations of juicy genre filmmaking.
Anyway, the Screams seem to run a lot like the Chainsaws do: Check out all the categories and nominees (after the jump) and then head on over to SpikeTV.com and cast your own votes! This is particularly amusing for the horror nuts -- because we're nothing if not passionately opinionated on which horror flicks rock and which ones suck the proverbial egg. Spike TV broadcasts their Scream Awards on the evening of October 10th.
Keep in mind that the Scream Awards are more of an all-encompassing "genre" affair, whereas Fango's Chainsaws are decidedly more horror-intensive. (My preferred winners are emboldened.) And with that ... the noms:
The Ultimate Scream Award -- Batman Begins, The Devil's Rejects, The Hills Have Eyes, Lost, Superman Returns

...plus there are a bunch of rather cool categories for the comic book creators, but I know next to nothing about the modern state of comic-dom. Plus we're a movie blog. Quick reminders: You vote right here, and you watch (on Spike TV) on October 10th.

Ya know, I'm actually really impressed with their list of nominations. Granted it's roughly the same 8 movies cycled back and forth, but at least the category names are far more respectable than the MTV Awards. And the inclusion of BSG recieving multiple nominations means I'll probably actually make some kind of effort to catch this when it airs.

FWIW, there have been a number of horror awards shows over the years; Fangoria had The Chainsaw Awards, and I can remember a couple of others in the 90's. The trick of it is there has never been more than one (i.e., we never saw "The Second Annual..."), and they've always been on cable, on one night, so if you missed it, you missed it. The last one I remember was pre-internet, as well, which would've put it in the early 90's.
Point being, there have been horror awards shows, but it'd be nice if Spike would stick with it and make it something legit...

I wonder if *Doctor Who* will again upset *BSG* as best (scifi) television series for these awards just as it did at the Hugo Awards last week.
I know which one I'm voting for...the sole survivor of the Time War!

Hi guys - John Moore here - I directed the remake of "The Omen" which is apparently nominated for a best remake Scream Award - well, love or hate the film, I never got invited to the show which is taking place right now about a quarter of a mile from my house - so this is clearly a fake award show - they know way in advance who won and didn't win...so much for opening the envelope with baited breath " and the winner is...!" ....it's really reprehensible that Spike are presenting this as a real award show - it's a rip off especially to horror fans. Shame on them
