More Star Wars is Coming

So I'm watching that South Park episode the other day where the boys go to war with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas over their plans to take the original Indiana Jones, add a bunch of CGI nonsense and re-release it. Of course, they were poking fun at Lucas' decision to redo Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and how most fans weren't exactly thrilled with the results.
Well, I then came across this post at FilmRot that talks about the upcoming DVD release of those same Star Wars films, minus the latest Lucas tinkering. Sure, they won't be remastered, but the fans are finally getting what they've wanted for such a long time: Star Wars, as it originally appeared in the theater. Fabulous! However, seeing as 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV on the big screen, we're now hearing more about plans for an additional DVD set to arrive in stores at some point next year. Yes, more Star Wars!
According to FilmRot via DigitalBits, " Well, we've confirmed it: There IS a big, ultimate, 6-film Star Wars anniversary DVD box set planned for 2007. There will be more changes to the films, and there will be LOTS of new, never-before-seen special features -- all the good stuff that was held back by Lucasfilm from the original Trilogy DVD release a few years ago. Think deleted scenes and more." Sounds super, but seeing as this the ULTIMATE boxset, does that mean those original Star Wars versions will be included too? If so, why should we shell out our hard-earned cash next month, when they will appear in a glorious boxset later on in 2007? What will you do?

Buy it! They're only out for a limited time and knowing Lucas, I doubt they'll be releasing them again anytime soon...seems to me he doesn't particularly care or 'get' why we want to see the original's in all their low-fi quality. Besides who the hell wants Episodes 1-3 anyway?

Don't buy the versions released next month. They are from transfers made for laserdisc in the early 90's and should have an image quality just better than videotape and not suitable for DVD. They will also not be anamorphic, so when you get your widescreen HDTV over the next few years, assuming you don't have one already, the picture will be practically unwatchable anyway.

Wait till 2007. If the Ultimate Boxset doesn't have the originals, buy the limited edition on ebay or something.

I'm sorry, but how many times can Lucas release his "ultimate vision" for the films? It's getting tiresome to see a new release in the stores every two or three years.
I don't care if they include the sandstorm scene in ROTJ, the Boche station in ANH, or the rancor-in-the-rebel-base scene from TESB. I've already payed a ton of money for DVD's, I'm not paying more. Sorry, Lucas.

Get the original sets when they come out. This is exactly what thousands of fans have been waiting for, albeit they didnt remaster them which is pretty much the only change I think anyone would want but at least Hayden Christensen is not at the end of Jedi. I would watch Jedi scrambled to not see that. I cannot believe that Lucas is making even more changes to the orignal trilogy. I thought he learned his lesson when he finally agreed to release the true editions but I guess not. When will the man learn not to tamper with excellence?

The Unaltered Trilogy is only available for a limited time. It goes off the shelves December 31, according to LucasFilm.

Why is he continuing to tinker with his "original vision"? Greed. Pure and simple greed. He might get the point if some of his releases sat and gathered dust on store shelves.

I'm disappointed the "ultimate" set seems to be just for DVD and not Blu-Ray. It ain't "ultimate" unless its in HD these days.

What will I do? Never give another dime to George Lucas for as long as I live. The man has turned into a hack. After the abomination of E3 I can't bring myself to give him my hard earned dollars.
George and Metallica need to get together and make a space opera so they can totally sell out and rip us all off by wasting two more hours of our lives.
Just a rant.
