Fall Films -- to Avoid
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Drama, Thrillers, Mystery & Suspense, Scarlett Johansson, Remakes and Sequels
In a display of negativity that we here at Cinematical can't help but applaud, the people at Fametracker (AKA the brilliant minds who came up with The JT Walsh Awards years before we did) have put together a list of their 10 least-anticipated films for the fall. It's a tight race for the top -- so tight, in fact, that The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause can only reach as high as 6.5 -- but in the end it's a star-free, violent epic in a dead language that beats out even Rocky Balboa for first place. Yes, that's right: For what is sure to be the only time, Apocalypto is number one.Go check out the list and see which film you're most pissed off to see there, and what you think they left off. Me, I'm having a hard time not getting a little annoyed about the inclusion of The Black Dahlia, despite the admittedly troubling fact that it's resting on the mildly unreliable (albeit pretty) backs of Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johansson.

I'm looking forward to Apocalypto.
I'm sick of movies about other cultures where the main characters are some silly white boys, instead of the people from that culture.

in #9 they comment about how Orlando Bloom has disappeared since LOTR, but he's in the Pirates movies, which are huge... seems like a weird omission.
in #2 they seem to be implying that RFK's life (and death) isn't worthy of a film? seems a little odd to me, he is one of the more interesting historical figures of the last 50 years.

I for one am looking forward to "The Wicker Man." I rented the original version last month, and it's one of the best horror flicks I've ever seen. And Britt Ecklund--OMG, what a hot babe! And interestingly enough, Christopher Lee starred in the original, and was paid absolutely nothing for it--and he proudly states that! He said it's one of the best films he's ever done, and anyone who sees it will agree, I'm sure. So I am interested in seeing how the remake will fare. If you haven't seen the original, go rent it! Has anyone else out there seen the original? If so, please say what you thought of it, and whether or not you want to see the remake.

Fun list, but they left off: the 459th version of some old horse book, an animated film about British rodents, a prison/football hybrid, a remake of a three-year old Italian film, a military procedural about a hot young stud and a wizened old grump, an animated film about talking forest creatures, an action movie starring a wrestler, an animated film about dancing penguins, and a prequel to a remake of an original that spawned three sequels.
