Ann Coulter: Film Editor
Filed under: Documentary, Independent, Celebrities and Controversy, Politics, Cinematical Indie
Normally I hate to get political (because politics is less interesting than movies), but after doing a few painful hours of serious research, I've come to the conclusion that right-wing lunatic Ann Coulter is probably the most horrific non-murderer I've ever come across. She sells a lot of books, true -- because ham-fisted choir-preaching, arcane ravings and sloppily-written bile make for fun reading, I guess.Seems that the self-adoring Ms. Coulter is branching out into fields that don't include self-promotion, intolerance and hate-mongering; nowadays she fancies herself a film editor too: Nick Doob and Chris Hegedus, directors of Al Franken: God Spoke have been forced to remove a sequence in which Mr. Franken (verbally) beats Coulter down and wins an argument without breaking much of a sweat. Despite the fact that the conversation took place at an open debate and is most definitely an item of public record, Coulter has to approve the footage for it to stay in the film -- and, as a huge proponent of ignorance, spite and censorship, she refuses to do so.
CHUD's Deven Faraci has the full details. Anyone who still doesn't know who Coulter is need watch only this video. Oh, and this one. (This one too.) OK, and this last one. I mean, really. Aren't her 15 minutes up yet?
Special Note: Please understand that I have no problem whatsoever with Conservatives, Republicans or right-wing beliefs. I'm simply of the opinion that Ann Coulter is a seriously horrible person and that she does considerably more harm than good for the people she claims to represent.
[Thanks to John at JoBlo's for the heads-up.]

Given that Al Franken has devoted entire chapters of his books and countless hours of his radio show to Ann Coulter, maybe she asked for a token before he be allowed to include her in a whole movie. If someone who hated me told me they were making a documentary and wanted to include me in it, for free, I think I'd hang up on them.

Whomever you are, whatever position you are taking, if you are going to get into the ring and dish it out, you'd better be able to take a punch. Her recent ballyhooed TV appearance proves Coulter can't. At the very least she needs to develop a sense of humor about herself. The rest of us certainly have.

If Ann Coulter is a Right Wing lunatic, and she may be. Then certainly you must see that Al Franken is the oppisite side of the same coin!

This is the stupidest post I've seen on Cinematical. Didn't know cinema was just a tool for didactic pseudo political histrionics. So long Cinematical.

I do...or at least as they're being espoused these days. Didn't conservatives use to believe that government should stay out of people's lives?

I've been reading this blog for a while and this is the first post that I've really been disappointed with. I can't stand politics and I'm no fan of Ann Coulter, but that post was loaded with so much bias that I had to read it twice just to find the connection between the title and the text. I would humbly ask that in the future that the political banter and criticism be kept out of the movie news. If I wanted my news spun with opinions I'd watch network television.

Hey people - blogs aren't new sites, they are blogs.
Part of the reason they are fun is they have personal bias.
If you want pure entertainment news, read Variety.

You are correct. You should not delve into politics. Do us all a favor and stay with what you know.

Couldn't they just do the thing Cops does and blur her face and digitally disguise her voice?
Or give Bebe Neuwirth a call and have her reenact the Coulter bit? A green-screen type thing, maybe, like all those dancing with famous dead people commercials?
It seems a shame to let Coulter's ego get the best of them, when it could so easily support yet more mockery of her unique brand of arrogance and idiocy. Can't wait to see this.

I'm not a fan of Coulter, but I also wasn't into the way things were depicted in this movie. There was no real display of Coulter's side. At least on Politicaly Incorrect, and, I assume, Bill Maher's HBO show, she is given a much better forum for us to make up our minds about her. The movie really represents all that is wrong with the liberal media (indirectly so) as much as it is about what is wrong with the Conservative media (directly attacking it).

LoserHero, read the first paragraph of the post and tell me how "that right-wing lunatic Ann Coulter is probably the most horrific non-murderer I've ever come across" is relevant to her choosing to not have a scene where she is shown getting her ass kicked verbally in someone else's movie.
Hate Ann Coulter? Cool....lots of people do. But, using a story about Ann Coulter in a movie blog to try and convince other people to hate her? Thanks, but that reminds me of the same irresponsible journalism that keeps me from watching network news.
Love reading Cinematical, but politics is always a touchy subject and my humble opinion (as stated before) is that it doesn't add any value to your readership.
I realize blogs are meant to be personal and not "corporate" news, but one thing they are is topical - and if I wanted political spin I'd read a political blog.

I gotta ask... Had Scott used this post to ridicule Franken instead, would those of you who complained about politics still be complaining? Or is it just because he attacked the side you like?
And had he said the same thing about, say, Tom Cruise, what reactions then? Is Cinematical allowed to call Cruise batshit insane because he's a movie star, but not allowed to say the same about Coulter because she handles more political fare?
I mean, Scott went out of his way to cover his bases here, and he still gets a beatdown, because some people don't like to learn that a pundit they like is a twit. Crazy.

Ann Coulter is such a publicity hound it is funny that people think she is not part of Hollywood. she wants to be a part of it sooo bad. I didnt realize that Frankin needed to get permission to use her. I dont understand how this works. Did Michael Moore have to get Bush's permission before he used footage in his movie ?

A note at the bottom of a scathing post telling people that you're unbiased and love everyone doesn't cover your bases any better then my comment about not being a fan of Coulters. No one in this thread has defended Coulter or her actions, antics, beliefs etc...but you obviously still think that.
All I've respectfully asked is that the bloggers treat politics and political opinion like the touchy subject that it is, and only go there when it's relevant.

Have you even read one of her books entirely, she is extremely well-researched in the areas she talks about.
She was absolutely right when she said "Liberals don't understand hyperbole."
And as this post proves, they still don't.

Dude, please. Statements like "liberals don't understand hyperbole" are precisely why she has so many detractors. It's not only a broad and incorrect generalization, but it's said in such a way as to incite anger. This is her m.o. from top to bottom. But you want some hyperbole? OK.
"Anne Coulter is worse than Hitler and she deserves to have every safe in the world dropped onto her face, which is the ugliest one ever created in the history of all mankind."
And as far as "well-researched" goes, I think she's still "sure" that Canada sent troops to Vietnam.
