The Most Beautiful British Woman of All-Time
Filed under: Classics, Casting, Fandom, Lists
According to Bottlegreen Drinks Co., the most beautiful British woman of all-time is Gone with the Wind star Vivien Leigh. Okay, I imagine you American readers are now wondering, "What is Bottlegreen Drinks Co. and what do they have to do with the movies?" Unfortunately, I can't really give any answers. I'd never heard of Bottlegreen before this news, either, and a quick glance at their website doesn't have me going, "ooooooh, they make _____." As for their expertise on surveys about British celebrity, I can't find a thing. Nonetheless, the company apparently polled 1,000 men and women, and Leigh, who died nearly forty years ago, topped the list of British beauties. And what about the most handsome British man, you ask? Well, that would be Cary Grant, whose popularity still astounds me (even though he's grown on me, if only because he appears in so many great films), particularly in the looks department (that hair and butt-chin are awful!). If women aren't ignoring his voice when they claim the attraction, then I give up trying to figure out what women want. Unfortunately, the reports of this news don't include a full list of the male runners-up. As for the other nine ladies who followed in the top ten, you can check them out after the jump.
Top 10 Most Beautiful British Women of All-Time:
- Vivien Leigh
- Elizabeth Taylor (born in England to American parents)
- Catherine Zeta-Jones
- Princess Diana
- Julie Christie
- Honor Blackman
- Kate Moss
- Sienna Miller
- Liz Hurley
- Jane Seymour

Cary Grant (and Bogart, for that matter) are proof positive that charisma wins over physical looks any day. At least, to women who pay attention ;)
Vivian Leigh was gorgeous and elegant. Although I hear she had a penchant for the production crew...

Wow, I wouldn't put any of the top 7 on the list. Diana had a big nose and reminded me of a Giraffe when she walked. Zeta Jones was hot in 95 but she's gone downhill fast. Liz Taylor was attractive? I've seen all her movies and I'd contend no way.
Julie Christie? Huh? Come on!
Honor Blackman and Kate Moss? Are you guys kidding?

Greer Garson ? Deborah Kerr ? Moira Shearer ? Julie Andrews ? You can't think of any British actresses or actresses from the British Isles ? Shame on you. Greer Garson was stunning and of course there is the young Angela Lansbury, and Maureen O'Hara

Replace 5 thru 9 with Moira Shearer, Jean Simmons
Maureen O'Hara (Irish actually), Greer Garson, and
Maureen O'Sullivan in her later Tarzan years.

Zeta-Jones downhill? Someone needs new glasses.
Far as I'm concerned she is more beautiful every
time I see her.

Michelle Morgan is a great choice for French actors,
but I'd have to put Catherine Deneuve at the top of
my list. When she's in a shot, there's nothing else
on the screen. And she's a pretty hot old broad too.

I totally agree that Julie Andrews should have been in your top 10 of the Most Beautiful British Women in the World.
She is one of the most honored actresses in show business and she is also an author of children's books that are best sellers. She has a BAFTA Award
which she got in 1989 and in 2001 she recieved a
Kennedy Center Honors and of course she has an Academy Award for "Mary Poppins." She also has a lot
of Emmy Awards for her Television work.
She donates a lot of time and money to charity work
and is always on the move.
She just directed her first play, "The Boy Friend." The play that brought her to America.

Any list like this that doesn't have Diana Rigg on it is highly flawed. Then, to add insult to injury, they put that quitter Cathy Gale on there. Fort Knox indeed.

Jean Simmons absolutely belongs on this list. Jacqy Bisset wasn't bad, and I don't know if they count exactly since they were born in Japan, but Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontine were babes.

Julie Christie does not belong in the top ten? Watch Dr. Zhivago and name a more beautiful actress than her. Just an incredible woman. Farenheit, Shampoo etc.
Taylor is a classic and Zeta Jones is probably more sexy than beautiful. Seymour is a good choice, as is the up and coming Sienna Miller.
Keira Knightly will show up on this list eventually.
Kate Moss, now that is funny
