Bob Hoskins Would Love to be The Penguin

The first film had barely made it to the theaters before the rumor mill began spinning around a possible cast for the sequel. Batman Begins, under the direction of Christopher Nolan and with the acting talents of Christian Bale and Michael Caine, was an exceptionally well-received movie, and people knew instantly sequels would be on the way. It didn't take very long for said rumor mill to declare Oswald Cobblepot (that's the Penguin, for those of you who don't know) as a character in the next film. Several good names popped up relating to the character, including Bob Hoskins -- a personal favorite. Eventually the rumors died down, and Hoskins faded from the picture ... until now.IESB recently showed up at the premiere for Hollywoodland, and got the chance to throw Hoskins one quick question: They chose the Batman issue, and asked if he had any involvement. Hoskins appeared taken aback by the question, and indicated that he had never been approached for the role. He did, however, say he would love the chance to work with Nolan, particularly in the Batman universe. Of course, this seems to be a prevailing sentiment in Hollywood these days; everyone wants a piece of the current successful superhero franchise.

Hoskins would be excellent in the role, and seems like the type of person Nolan would choose...hum? fun idea.

One of the things I liked about the new film was the villains not having already appeared in the older films.
The Joker and the Penguin... I loved Tim Burton's films, and this seems to be trying to say "Sod him, we're better". Which may or may not be the case, but still...
I shall watch with apprehension.

I'm going to get crap from all the hard-core bat-fans out there... but the Penguin sucks as a character. Not looking forward to him being in the movies at all. I've never really read the comics, but every movie (of course) and animated series I've seen the Penguin pop up in, he just comes across as ridiculous... and well, he's a human-penguin... how can it not be ridiculous?

I'm all for his casting. I'd love for Cobblepot to be involved in arms smuggling, but I'd also love to see him running his restaurant/club under the guise of being a legitimate businessman. At the very least, never show Cobblepot as a mutant like how Burton modified him.
I also hope WB puts out a pic of Ledger as The Joker quickly so those of us still with doubts could be won over. I really wish they'd try to pull one over us and have him play the role of a Jack Napier or a Red Hood who does not become The Joker and reveal another actor (hint hint...Eccleston or Bettany) as The Joker.
