Gerald Molen to Develop Lupin the 3rd

On the heels of the Ishimori announcement (read it here), comes another big news story about a classic anime series. The subject this time is the ever-popular Lupin the 3rd. Producer Gerald R. Molen recently laid claim to two major projects, one a sports drama adapted from a book about baseballers in World War II called Playing With the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, A World at War, and a Field of Broken Dreams; the other, Lupin the 3rd. Molen's WhiteLight production company will be handling both films, with the former filming in February. No date has been given for Lupin yet.So, an Americanized live-action version of Lupin the 3rd. Eh? Yeah, I'm not sure what to think about it either. Somehow, the idea of American producers and directors handling anime projects still sits uneasily with me. Now would be a good time for serious Lupin fans to step in and give me some help. What do you think about bringing Lupin to Hollywood?
Oh yeah, and that baseball thing sounds fun, too.

Hayao Miyazaki's version of Lupin still stand as the high water mark for the series. I cherish "The Castle of Cagliostro" and am certain as can be that it will be bastardized by an american director or just about any other director.
To me, great properties are generally better off when left alone. I may miss my dead aunt but I don't want some fool putting on her skin and dancing around in order to ease my desire to see her again.
My love for great films comes from the heart. Hollywood's love for great films comes from the wallet and out loves seldom meet.

Jim Carrey would be the only one I could see as Lupin.

Jim Carrey? Eww. No way could he pull off a convincing proper Lupin. I doubt any live action version could ever be done right.
I would like to point out that we kind of already have had a live action Lupin film. Its called Hudson Hawk.
You think about Lupin and you watch that movie and you try and tell me it isnt at least "inspired" by.

I, for one, would love to see what they do with this. I'm riding a fine line between fear and glee. :)
For a long time I've had my personal choices as to who should play who, for most of the cast.
Lupin: Colin Hanks.
Come on, he has the look for it. :)
Jigen: Hugh Jackman
The man needs to lose alittle of the muscle for the role, bbut that grin of his screams Jigen
And the one I most sure of,
Zenigata: Burce Campbell
Try telling me he isnt perfect for the role.

I wholeheartedly agree with Hugh Jackman as Jigen: He's got the attitude down pat and extra facial hair works well on him, he's the obvious choice
Alas, there's little or no chance for Bruce Campbell as Zenigata: He's either retiring or already has because he has cancer.
I suggest Adam Sandler as Lupin: He can be a complete goofball, like Lupin can, but he can be serious, too: such as in The Wedding Singer.
And, unless this is to be an original script/story, I suggest Christopher Walken as the villian of the piece, simply because Christopher Walken is so good at playing egotistical, slightly bent villians, which most Lupin villians are....
Since the producer is a frequent collaborator of Stephen Spielberg, and Spielberg has stated before that Lupin, specifically The Castle of Cagliostro, is his favorite anime, one wonders if this will be a live action remake of The Castle of Cagliostro. Myself, I'd prefer a completely original story that stays true to the Lupin series....

Colin Hanks seems to be good as Lupin, also Hugh Jackman as Jigen. But I was thinking a better choice for the Lupin role, I suggest Robbie Williams, the singer (not Robin Williams the actor)...

I just hope that the script is fresh and not ripping off i.e., castle of cagliostro or any of the other films already made.
And also that the characters stay true to their roles.
Jim Carry would be lame
Not sure who should be Lupin
Hugh Jackman as Jigen all the way
Johny Depp as Goemon
If possible, Bruce Campbell as Zenigata
Gilbert Godfrey as Fujiko ( J/K ;P )
I dunno who I'd pick for Fujiko....
