Disney Takes Jungle Cruise
Filed under: Action, Thrillers, Deals, Remakes and Sequels
Let's take a quick little quiz, shall we? If I were to ask you what makes Pirates of the Caribbean such a successful movie franchise, would you answer:A. The fine acting, led by Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.
B. It is a movie about pirates, and everybody loves pirates.
C. It was based on a ride at the marvelous Walt Disney World resort.
D. Probably any answer in the world which is not C.
If you answered A, B, or D, congratulations, you get full credit and can be considered to have above room temperature intelligence. If you answered C, you are probably a voting member of Disney's movie division, Walt Disney Pictures, which has just recently decided to green light -- with "high-priority" status, mind you -- another film based on a theme park ride. This time, the "potential franchise" is none other than Disney's Jungle Cruise, one of the classic original rides at the park which features cruise riders who come across all kinds of wild jungle creatures on their voyage. Bet you just can't wait to shell out for this one, right?

You're probably right that this will be a stinker, but to be fair, we all said the same sorts of things when they announced they were making Pirates of the Caribbean. "A movie based on a theme park ride?" we all said, "What's next, 'Spinning Teacups: The Motion Picture'?" So, you never know, I guess.
That being said, I know I'll never go see this Jungle Cruise piece of crap. Jungle Cruise? More like Bungle Cruise! (I'm guessing)

Did even *they* not go see "Haunted Mansion" or "Country Bears"? Have they learned nothing?

Pirates of the Caribbean was definitely at Disneyland before being at Disney World. It opened in Anaheim in 67, and in Disney World in '73.
And anyhow, you know that Jungle Cruise has cannibals in it! So did Pirates 2! it's gotta be a hit! Cannibals! Cannibals + Disney movie = cinematic gold!
(yes, that's sarcasm.)

The Jungle Cruise ride is based on the movie The African Queen, why not just see that movie instead of making a movie based on the ride? Now, I love the Jungle Cruise whenever I go to D-Land it's a must ride, especially when you get a good skipper who knows how to deliver those old jokes just right.
