Freddy and Jason May Return to Kick Some Ash
Filed under: Horror, Remakes and Sequels
It seems unlikely that this will ever come to fruition, but then that's what I was saying about the whole Freddy Vs. Jason thing a few years ago. The idea of re-teaming that kid from Crystal Lake with the dude with the claws and the skin condition, and pitting them against Ash from the Evil Dead movies has been kicking around for awhile, but now it seems the project is at least marginally closer to becoming a reality. Freddy Vs Jason director Ronny Yu told Coming Soon that there has been some discussion of pitting the three horror icons against one another, even going so far as to say "It's almost like an updated version of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. If they really want to do it and they want me to do it, I'd love to do it."Convincing Sam Raimi to sign off on the project would seem to be the biggest hurdle. Raimi said as recently as 2004 on Movieweb.com (as recently reported on Moviehole.net) that he wasn't interested in lending the character out. Part of me thinks it blasphemy that any other director should use the Ash character, but given the fact that Raimi has been helming the mega-budget Spider-man franchise (and doing it well), one has to wonder if and when he'll ever find time to steer Ash back to that cabin in the woods. And what of Bruce Campbell? Is he willing to strap on the chainsaw and get doused with fake blood even without his long-time partner in crime calling the shots? I think this could be a fun movie, but I'm not holding my breath just yet.

This rumor comes around again. Even Bruce has commented on it perviously, and what it came down to is if Ash were involved Ash would have to be the one kicking butt and surviving but would Freddy and Jason let their asses be whooped without offing Ash? I'd rather have a true ED movie from Raimi/Campbell/Tapert than just some big hollywood blockbuster franchise big budget disaster. Hail To the King, Baby!
