Franco Iffy on Spidey 4

The trilogy seems to be a nice, round target for a movie franchise. Many of the top series (and a number of the not so top series, as well), have chosen to end their runs as three movie sets -- somehow it just seems right. Spider-Man, the exceptionally popular Marvel film franchise, is closing in on the release of the third film ... and rumor mongers, fans, and industry professionals alike have been hot to debate the future of Spider-Man in cinema. The Boston Herald caught up with Spidey star James Franco and ask him his thoughts about potential sequels, and he said ''I don't know, Tobey (Maguire), Kirsten (Dunst) and I all signed on for three movies, so this is the third one. I don't know how everyone feels about another one." Franco also said he'd be hesitant to see the franchise in the hands of a director other than Sam Raimi, and he'd be sad "in a way" if this was the last of the Spider-Man flicks.Thoughts, Spider-fans? Would handing the franchise off to another director, even possibly with the same cast, be a death stroke for the franchise? Further, would the disappearance of Dunst and/or Franco really hurt the story, or could it survive without them? Perhaps, after all, this is why Gwen Stacy is being belatedly introduced to the cast of characters ...

One more, one more, one more, one more - break the trilogy and go for the Quadlogy (or whatever you call it) - Do one last one and wrap it up - I have a feeling they are not wrapping up things in this third movie and I don't think they've "officially" came out and said this will be the last one.

Not having Dunst will certainly be a good thing, she's the worst possible MJ.

Franchise is one of the best out there, despite what a certain competitor seems to think in here.
It could keep going, if Raimi stays. No Tobey? Bring in Jake Gyllenhal! He's got more balls, he's more sarcastic, and could play a Spidey that's grown up a bit more, a bit more apathetic, say if he loses someone important again.
No Dunst? Thank god, she can take that giant red noggin and star in a sequel to Pumpkinhead. She's the series' weak link.
No Franco? Might be guaranteed after this go around, anyway.

I think this should be turned into a franchise kinda like James Bond. There is so much source material that we don't really need to have the same director or even actors each time. The beauty of the Marvel universe is that it is not linear. Could we see an Ultimate Spiderman movie in the future?
Same with X-men. How about X-Men: Age of Apocalypse brought to the silver screen........ No Halle Berry or Kelsey Gramer. I'll take Michael Clarke Duncan as Apocalypse anytime.
