Potter Crisis: Negotiatum Stallificatum!
Filed under: Action, Casting, Warner Brothers, Family Films, Comic/Superhero/Geek
There's a pretty interesting exclusive over at Newsweek: Emma Watson's not sure if she's on board for more Potter. While Potter five is finishing filming, Emma Watson -- best known as Hermione Granger -- has been publicly stating that she's ambivalent about signing on for the last two films. "I love to perform, but there are so many things I love doing ... Maybe that sounds ungrateful. I've been given such an amazing opportunity, but I'll just have to go with the flow." There's a question if this reflects legitimate burnout on Watson's part -- by the time the projected series is done, she'll be almost 20, and will have spent a significant percentage of her years on this planet playing Hermione -- or if it's just positioning and posturing for more cash for the next go-around. Plenty of franchises have re-cast mid-stream -- I'd love to hear a phone call between Watson and Crispin Glover, who notably got shoved out of the Back to the Future films -- but there's such an association between Potter's triumvirate and the films that it's almost insane to imagine the producers letting her go. Would you accept a different Hermione? Whom do you cast? Or should Warner Brothers skimp on catering and take the financial hit to get Watson back at any cost?

Pay the price! At this point, I could not imagine another filling her shoes. I would personally be sad to see it happen.

Pay up. The series has to be making them enough money to afford it, and Emma's the strongest actor of the three, IMO. I'd almost rather she be manipulating the studio for more money than seriously thinking about leaving acting...I've been hoping to see her in other films ever since PoA.

Last movie it was Rupert, this time it's Emma. It's just a bunch of talk. None of them are going anywhere.

Would you quit your job if you made $20 million dollars a gig? I'd just finish the damn thing and build a pool full of $1, then when I ran out of money I'd move on to the next genre: Harry Harder and the Sorcerer's Bone.
I know, bad joke. we all make them.

Harry Potter sucks anywayz! Let her go, she'd be better off. They're all going to end up as faded out child actors on VH1's "Where are they now?" episodes.

What! Harry Potter without Emma it will never happen
she'll finish the last 2 movies and then move on to other things, if not the next movies will bomb.
So many people have grown up watching the adventures of Ron, Harry and Hermione. no one will want to watch some other actress take her place.

I think it very funny that some "stars" don't want to do films that are part of a set. Never mind that financially, this will keep her afloat for years, but this is making her career. You don't hear any of the Lord of the Rings actors whining about it. How about the X Men actors? Sir Ian was in BOTH sets. Christopher Lee did LOTR and Star Wars. Are they whining? Think again, little girl.

Honestly, how old is she? How much money does she really need. I think she's a little young to be getting that selfish. I say replace her. Plus, if she really wants to go, then they should just let her go. If she keeps playing in Harry Potter, it's going to be very hard for her to find something else.

Pay the young lady. My sons have been watching these films from their start. It would shatter Lucas to see Emma replaced. Honestly, the girl gave life to a ficitional chartacter she should be entitled to a pay raise.

Pay it up. I can't see another person playing Hermonine. Besides she's a cutie, as well as the other two players. But Hermonine is the strongest of the three and it really matches her overall from the books. PLEASE STAY WATSON!!

I love Emma Watson in the role of Hermione! She is a wonderful gifted actress. I hope she'll continue in the role.
My husband and I started watching the Harry Potter movies because of our children but we are HOOKED and and can hardly wait for the next one to be released. We've also been reading the books. Since we saw the movies before reading the books, we are continuing that way. I guess my feeling is I want to be totally surprised when I see ea movie rather than knowing what is going to happen because I read the books.

Pay up. You can't change the cast now. I think of the three she's the best, followed by Rupert, then Daniel. WB is making so much money off these movies that they should be able to pay her whatever she wants. It was hard adjusting to a new Dumbledore but we had no choice in that matter.

They should definitely attempt to keep Ms. Watson for the part. On the other hand, they need to recast Dumbledore as the current actor overacts the part playing the unflappable character with too much energy and anger. Richard Harris played him perfectly...such a loss to the franchise. I would suggest Peter O'Toole in a heartbeat!!!!

Maybe shes afraid of being typecast into child star hell? We can't imagine another harry or hermione or anyone, we did manage with the new dumbledore though. What will these kids do when harrys over? could the public really look at them in a new role and not see their potter characters? Or major burnout, the have been at this non stop for years, just kids really. If emma has really just burned out, no amout of $$ is going to help her, it will only pay for therapy and re hab later! But we do like our Hermione just the way she is Emma, so hang around would ya?

I think that she should keep doing it. She'll only be 20, she's got roughly 60 more years on this planet to do other things. She should be thinking of her fans- no one can fill her shoes at this point. The only reason the recast of Dumbledore worked was because the actor died. Short of that, she should stick with it and be happy with her millions.
