Back to the Future, Forward to the Past: Scarlett Johannson
Filed under: Drama, Casting, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand, Scarlett Johansson
Someone get this gal a Delorean, because Scarlett Johannson has been doing a lot of time traveling lately. In Michael Bay's flop, The Island, she was trapped in a frightening vision of the future, but lately she's been dipping into the past with increasing regularity ever since Girl with a Pearl Earring. She can currently be seen in the 1940s era The Black Dahlia, and will also appear in Christopher Nolan's turn of the century magic thriller, The Prestige. After that she has lined up The Other Boleyn Girl (1500s), Napoleon and Betsy (1800s) and now Mary, Queen of Scots (back to the 1500s), in which the gal will take on the role of Queen Mary of Scotland.
While we support Scarlett's love of the historical pieces, can we please see her out of a hoop skirt and in a t-shirt and jeans sometime soon?

Uh, Scoop and Match Point were both set in present day. Those two movies were out within the past year.

#1's comment is correct, of course, but I have to agree with the post. I found that one of the things that made me like her performances in Ghost World and Lost in Translation so much, was that I felt she was very easy to relate to in a modern sort of way. She reminded me of people I know. It's not quite the same when you take her out of her element like this. I did like her in Girl with the Pearl Earring though, so I'll gladly forgive that one.

Ummm...I like Johanson in period peices. There aren't many girls out there that can take on these roles as she has done. But I've recently seen her in Match Point...which was awesome but seriously....why is it so bad to have historical movies? She can do what she wants and hell, SHE'S GOOD AT IT!

T-shirt and jeans, ala Match Point? Fine. But please - no shorts. I just watched her episode of "Entourage", and I don't think she should be allowed to show her knees.
