When considering the Harry Potter universe, you have to admire the extensive list of important and semi-important characters Rowling has created. Like the world or not, she's done a pretty boffo job filling it up with interesting people -- which has apparently caused some consternation when it comes to movie budgets due to needing to pay an ever-increasing cast of irreplaceable people. If we were to have a discussion about our favorite* non-primary characters, Mrs. Weasley would be right at the top of my list. In a recent sit down with JewReview, Julie Walters (the actress who plays Mrs. Weasley for the Potter film franchise) took a few moments to discuss her thoughts on the role. She has recently finished filming, although much of the primary cast is still hard at work. She couldn't share much, but she did share a few interesting bits:
- Like the book, the Weasley parents are very involved in this film.
- Expect a very good Christmas. In the film, that is. I know nothing of your personal Christmas plans.
- The sets are "fantastic," "beautiful," and "amazing." At this point, we expect nothing less from the Potter team, but it is still nice to hear.
- New director David Yates is wonderful, and everyone loves him. He is very emotionally invested in the plot of the film.
- Julie Walters thinks that Mrs. Weasley should defeat Lord Voldemort, "with some help from Harry and the others." I, personally, would be totally in favor of this ending as well.

No doubt we are all entitled to our opinion though.

Masterworks of literature is exactly what these books are. You mark my words, they'll go down in history as the next Wizard of Oz. They're creative, spunky, magical, mysterious, and all because J.K. Rowling imagined all this in her head. The books are such masterworks, as you refer to them, that my college has actually started an english class specifically to study all six books. How about that for masterworks of literature!

Mrs. Weasley defeating Voldemort? What? Did I miss something here? I don't see how this would be a good choice.
Certainly interesting though, but I don't think I LIKE it all the same. Too "WTF" to me. Oh well.
Guess we'll know soon enough when book 7 is released next year... although they need to get cracking on those movies!
Book 6 in November 2008? Bah.

I don't believe that the Potter series will go down as the next "Wizard of Oz." "The Wizard of Oz" didn't become popular till they made the movie, and now no one reads the book. The Potter books stand alone, and have gotten kids to read more rather than sit in front of a TV. No other series or book can say that. That is why they are so good, not because they are master works, because they aren't. They are just fun, which is what they should be, nothing more nothing less.
