Jim Carrey Ain't Got No Game
Filed under: Comedy, Celebrities and Controversy, Focus Features
Focus Features ran into a fairly large obstacle on Tuesday when stars Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz and director Gabriele Muccino all vacated their posts from A Little Game, due to begin filming Oct. 19. Ouch. Both stars had problems with the third act of the film, based on a French play, and a promised rewrite failed to make everyone happy, which has turned A Little Game into A Big Mess.
Studio head James Schamus is tackling the rewrite himself, having written The Ice Storm and other films, in the hopes the movie can still be salvaged, at least with Jim Carrey onboard.
Carrey is finding himself in turbulent waters without anything to guide him to shore lately, having had Used Guys and Ripley's Believe It or Not! fall apart before shooting. He also fired his agents recently, which in Hollywood effectively states "do over!" We'd fire our agents too after both saddling us with the Tea Leoni curse and failing to capitalize on our excellent turn in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Carrey's problem, it seems, is that he wants to be taken as a serious actor after appearing in both Eternal and The Majestic. However, this guy is goofy to the core, and that's a good thing. But he's already crossed the line of taking himself, and his press, too seriously. Hopefully he can find a happy medium without doing films like Ace Ventura III, which is happening without him anyhow.

I think this article hit the nail on the head. I mean, how many times can you kick a dead horse ? There is a reason that the big name stars, that originated the roles, get out after 1, maybe 2 sequals. Movies that Jim Carey, for example, do are funny because it's him. He knows that the same humor can only be used so many times before people get tired of it. You'd think, that studio executives that have expensive college degrees would understand this simple thing. I hate to use this, but I guess it shows that you can't learn everything in college.

Jim needs to stick to comedy because that is what he is. All of his best films are comedies. So do what you do best make people laugh. more

No one loves, respects and appreciates Carrey's comedic genius more than I; however, anyone who doesn't see the amazing talent in The Majestic and The Truman Show are simply rejecting the idea that Carrey is capable of more than being a one-trick pony. He's a great actor, period. Robin Williams is proof that comedy is only one side of a great actor's abilities, and Carrey's show of force backs that up.

Jim Carrey is a comic genius.
He makes me laugh out loud, which is more than I can
say about any other comic around today.
I've seen "Dumb and Dumber" at least 3 times (it
shows up on a regular basis on TV) and his blond
buddy is almost as hilarious as he is..whatta great
team to watch anytime, especially if you'e in the
doldrums.
If he aspires to more drama, it should be something
really special; Since your comedic artistry aint broke
don't fix it.

I love Jim Carrey. I think that he is a talented and funny person. I really enjoy his movies alot. But to be honest, I can't really see him doing dramatic and serious roles. People are so used to seeing him do comedy for so long that it's kind of hard to see him do something dramatic (or it maybe kind of hard for me to see it). However, I do understand why he wants to do something else. He just wants to show people that he can do more than just funny roles. That there is more to him than Ace Ventura or Dumb and Dumber. Perhaps if I happen to see him do something more than funny roles, he can change my mind.

c'mon.....you know that carrey is just about finished...watching him do serious drama is similar to watching a fish swim on sand....he can try but it just doesn't work...he's been too silly too long and his brilliance has dimmed. unfortunately, his ego has forever typecast himself into what he tries to get away from. sorry jim but you know it as well.

Either jIm Carrey is insane as he looks OR he is just trying to find a happy balance in his life. He refuses to be controlled by hollywood. he wants to be happy and if that means doing films that he's fully proud and fully happy with then so be it. I think he thinks that if he's gonna do a film just for the heck of it, that's not him. He's not into making money as it looks I think. I think he is comfortable with what he has and will now only do a few films for a larger amount and ones that he will be truly happy with. Either that or he's a very spoiled man. He may be fully aware of the fact that he can take so, so many jobs, but refuses because it's not him. I dunno. I mean I cant figure out the guy really. In hollywood, whether your well known or not, you can be dropped easily. Everyone knows that an actor's job can be eradicated.

A few years ago I saw a old movie called "The Nutty Nuts" The actor in it reminded me of Jim Carey. It made me laugh all the way through it. I was thinking how much better Carey would have made it. Humm if I could only get this movie to him. So anyone who knows him, like perhaps his agent(ha ha) get this movie for him. All you Carey fans go rent " The Nutty Nuts".

I beleive Jim Carey would be great in Drama or Comedy. He is a great actor and I think people are tired of the over played rolls such as in Ace Ventura. He's made it, and no longer has to act out of control and over the top. Jim Carey never has to work again lets be honest, he can be picky. I also think people will respect him more for not selling himself short.. If anyone reading this hasn't seen Lier Lier , you must see it.. Jim Carey Rocks.. Its funny with a some real drama..

Jim Carrey is the most brillant actor we've seen in Hollywood for 50 years. He makes me laugh so hard I can't breathe. We've certainly seen his comic side! Keep in mind that comedy is typically considered more difficult than drama (that's why there are far more dramactic actors than comedic). Jim has earned loyalty from his fans. Let's cheer him on in his dramatic roles!

Are all you so-called Carey fans crazy?!!! Carey has done some good serious roles, my favorite being THE TRUMAN SHOW. The man can act...period. If you would look deeply into THE TRUMAN SHOW, you would see that it is a metaphor of how we live our lives here; being controlled and lied to by a sort of Big Brother. You should see it as well as check out his acting. He is fabulous in it. An actor can do a serious role and have some comedic moments in it as well. Do not throw the baby out with the bath water. Give Carey a chance. It's harder to stay on top than it is to move to the top, they say. And this is his challenge at the time. After a couple of disasters, wouldn't you assess your career and try to guide it differently? No matter what field you are in, it takes guts to risk and move on to different things, than staying in a job that does not make your heart sing. A good actor is versatile. Give him a chance; he may fall a couple of times while searching for his new nitch but if he sticks to it, he'll find it.

I think that Jim Carrey has potential to play in more serious roles. I respect that he don't won't to do comedy a lot and he want to be able to do other roles too. I think once he finds a good serious role and he perfect it, a lot of people are going to take him serious. For example, Robin Williams. He was always funny and goofy and people didn't take him serious. But it had to take a few good serious movies like Good Will Hunting to make everyone see that he can do serious roles and he won an oscar for the movie. Another example is Jamie Foxx. He was funny and goofy too and always playing comedic roles. Some thought his career was going to be over. Some didn't take him serious but after he did that movie Ray and won an oscar, that made people also think that he can play serious roles. So it is not that Jim Carrey can't do serious roles, it is just that maybe he haven't found that one good serious role that would prove to people that he can play serious roles and that he can be more than just funny.

Anyone who thinks Jim Carrey cannot do serious drama needs to see the 1992 film "Doing Time on Maple Street". Even if you have to buy it at Amazon.com, you will not regret it. I have been waiting for Jim Carrey to get into serious acting forever. Believe me, as genious as he is as a comic actor, he is just as good or better in a good dramatic role! Don't count him out, yet!

Never liked this guy. He is always an idiot in my
way of thinking. Comedy is one thing, but his comedy is certainly an extreme way of looking like he acts. Idiotic. His facial contortions alone make me turn away. So if he is a comedian, it just isn't my type of comedy. Perhaps he would make a better straight man. All in all I would much rather watch Abbott and Costello.

One time when my daughter and I were watching one of Jim Carey's comedy shows, I said to her, "Gee, he's such a good actor, that I would love to see him do a serious movie." It wasn't long before I saw one his serious movies, and it was just wonderful. Let Jim do whatever kind of movies he wants, but I would hope he would consider serious movies. He is so great in any kind of movie he does. Go, Jim!

Years ago Carey did a small tv fil called, "Doing time on Maple Drive". He played one of three adult children tackling a dysfunctional family. He was a drunk spiraling out of control. What amazed me then and now is that the man can really act. So granted he is a great comedic actor, he is also an equally great dramatic actor as well. The man can act his bum off!!! So Jim please hurry and give us an oscar winning dramatic preformance.
