The Return of Ron Burgundy
Filed under: Comedy, Deals, RumorMonger, Fandom, Scripts, Remakes and Sequels
In a move sure to delight millions, Will Ferrell has officially announced his interest in returning to the role of Ron Burgundy for another Anchorman go-round. Although Ferrell is a very busy man these days (as is his partner Adam McKay) with plenty of projects on his plate, he told the Toronto Star "I would love to do a sequel," and may actually be willing to put his next project with McKay (Step Brothers) on indefinite hold in order to get back to being Burgundy. The plot this time? According to Ferrell: "I was thinking, all of a sudden, for no reason, he's a European correspondent and has to do foreign languages which he knows nothing about."So what do you think? Does the Burgundy character have another film in him, or will the shtick get old if they try to bring him back? Will there be a breaking point when everyone gets tired of Ferrell's idiot-savant routine? He does tend to play largely the same character in most of his movies, and people haven't stopped queuing up for them yet, so I suppose if there is such a point, we haven't reached it yet.

the first one was not funny; if you think it was you are lying to yourself.
Go back to supporting roles Ferrell where your repeated jokes aren't as obvious.

Wow, this is hard one... I think it won't be very good, sequels usually aren't.

Come-on, these are films that aren't very good, occasionally clever, but somehow grow to be fantastically amusing after a few repeat viewings.
If Ferrell wants to make another, I'll see it, shake my head and say it wasn't as humorous as I had hoped, and six months later when it is in heavy rotation on I'll thank him for giving me a giggle. He knows he's a one-trick pony and he's good at it, to try to coerce him into parts that require real acting (I'll say this with authority till I actually see "Stranger than Fiction") would be a disaster both for his career and his fans. Let the man do what he does! Same for those Jackass boys, too.

I don't know what everyone else is talking about-I loved the first movie! I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life. If the second is going to be anything like the first, and if I'll be able to quote lines from it later on, then I say go for it!

This movie will be horrible, if made. The first one was funny the first time, annoying every time after that. Especially annoying are the people who "quote" it (read: try to quote it)

The schtick got old within about 10 minutes of the title in the first movie. For some reason the words 'flogging', 'dead', and 'horse' arise in my mind at this news

You mean, people aren't already?
He was funny in Zoolander. Ish. No, that's a lie. Everyone else was funny in Zoolander. He wasn't. Honestly, it may just be me, but I don't see the attraction.

When everyone gets tired of his schtick, which for Jim Carey and Robin Williams took a lot of movies, he'll move to do some serious roles to get his career in line and everyone will wow at an average performance because he was such a crap one trick pony who could play the cowbell but now he can act.

I'm torn on this one. I did like the first one but it was more because of the supporting cast (Rudd, Koechner, Carell especially) than Ferrell. If they get all of those guys maybe it will be ok.

Oh yes, yes, yes..........PLEASE!!!! And I agree with the above poster about how it actually gets funnier the more times I see it on cable. Saw it in the theatre and thought it was so-so, but after my son started quoting lines from it I began to see it's comic brilliance. "I'm in a glass case of emotion"!, or "milk was a BAAD choice"! or "What were you saying something? I don't speak spanish", or when he prank calls Veronica Corningstone and you can tell he is ad-libbing, especially when she asks who is calling....he is so believable when he can't seem to spit out the name right or pronounce it and he finally says, "It doesn't matter" and she says "your pathetic" and he says, "no your pathetic" and then says to his partner in crime, Champ, "I think she bought it". Classic. And just so you all know, San Diego is spanish for "a whale's vagina"! lol
