The closer we get to production on The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel), the firmer the cast list becomes. After non-stop rumors bombarded the net soon after the first film hit theaters, we're finally drawing in on the official decisions. One major (or at least important, if not major) player is still outstanding, however, as the rumor field remains wide open for the role of Harvey Dent (aka Two-Face). IGN Filmforce did some digging on the most popular candidates, and turned up the following:Jake Gyllenhaal is a big flat no from everyone. His people, the movie people and even bums on the street seem to suggest there won't be a Brokeback reunion on the Dark Knight set. This is probably for the best, as it will save us a bunch of terrible jokes from morning television programs. CAA said no Guy Pearce. They were very confident about this, apparently. Unfortunalely, no one from Liev Schreiber's (Dent's leading candidate) camp could be contacted. Ryan Phillippe's management, lawyer, and agency all said "no comment," while his publicist shoveled out an "official denial."
Batman on Film says the role has been cast and an announcement will come soon. Denying a role until it is announced is a popular sport among actors, but if everyone here was telling the truth, the role will go to an unexpected actor. Guesses?

I like Liev for Harvey Dent - I dont want actors who are too young - I like Ryan Philippe but think he's too young/young looking...
But since Liev kind of played a similar character in Manchurian Candidate I think because Nolan went so 180 on casting Heath that the 2-Face will also be something different.

Tommy Lee Jones? Just kidding. I'm sure it will be someone unexpected. The difficulty that Nolan faces with casting the role of Dent is that not only will they have to play Dent in this movie, but Two-Face in the third film... so he really has to think ahead here.
Whereas one actor might play a good Dent, he might be a shit Two-Face. And vice versa. It's a complex role... a bit more complex than the Joker, perhaps.
Well, I'm sure it will be surprising, I just hope it isn't quite as surprising as Heath Ledger. The fan reaction to that was a little over the top and I really don't want to hear a bunch of bloggers crying about the casting (again) for a few weeks after the Dent announcement.

If they cast Ryan over Liev, the casting director is insane. Then again, they cast Heath Ledger over Christopher Eccleston for The Joker, so I guess there's no denying their insanity. Perhaps they should seek treatment from Dr. Hugo Strange or Dr. Quinzel.

Read the Batman trade paperback "Arkham Asylum", you'll grasp a real sense of how Harvey should be.
