Three Stooges on the Move
Filed under: Comedy, Deals, Fandom, Scripts, Remakes and Sequels
The idea of a new Three Stooges movie has been floating around various studios for years now -- most recently accompanied by a Farrelly brothers script which has apparently impressed at least some of the people at C3 Entertainment, the rights holding company. At some point in the not too distant past, Warner Bros. had an option on the project, and in probably the wisest move made by the studio in decades, they let it drop. This means, however, the Stooges film went back on the market, where it was quickly snapped up by the eager First Look Studios. First Look says they plan to stay true to the "original flavor" of the studios, and C3 Entertainment is said to still be impressed with the contemporary script penned by the Farrellys.Look, I loved the Stooges growing up. I'm not picking on this film idea because of any sense of ill will towards the old boys -- I just fear the results of a "contemporary" Stooges film written by the guys who brought us Stuck on You. I can see nothing but great evil emerging from such a deal. However, maybe I'm just a cynic. What say you, Stooge fans? Are you glad to see your old buddies finally getting some attention from studios again, or is it sacrilege to replace the iconic actors?

I'm a guy and I love the stooges. Everything I know about home repairs I learned from them. Their shorts were great but their full-length movies left a lot to be desired. They just weren't funny when there was too much of a plot and were made out to be as human as their co-stars. So a Stooges movie when the original movies weren't any good can spell...uhhh...spell it however you like but you won't see me as one of the investors. The best stooges came in 20 minutes doses.

THE STUDIO WILL MAKE HISTORY IF THEY RELEASE A STOOGES MOVIE: IT MAY BE THE WORST MOVIE EVER TO BE RELEASED, THE BIGGEST FLOP EVER, AND THE WORST IDEA EVER. RELEASING THIS MOVIE WOULD RUIN THE LEGACY THAT IS THE 3 STOOGES AND WHENEVER PEOPLE SEE OR HEAR THE 3 STOOGES, THEY WILL THINK OF THE HORRIBLE MOVIE INSTEAD OF THE CLASSIC TV SERIES.

I say it's worth a shot.....you don't have to put a lot of $$$$$ into it....get some no name actors (who are hungry to get into the business) and get a good script....I think we need some new "Stooges" stuff....this could be great! Plus we need some "New" Marx Bros. movies as well..or something along that line!

I say let em make the movie....big and expensive, then when the movie flops there will be one less studio to turn bad ideas into worse movie projects.

I'm in agreement with the comments here. There isn't a way to do a Stooges movie properly; let them be and don't ruin them for us. I *did* think the made-for-TV docudrama about them that came out a few years ago was decent, but let's just leave it at that, please.
And Charles? You and my husband both on the home repair...

Why not. The finest form of flattery is imitation whether it be good or poor. I will never tire of the Stooges (yes a woman that actually likes them)
my son watches the stooges cartoons on Boomerang too.
I was not happy about some remakes...or "takes" on tv shows, for example... Miami Vice with No Miami Vice themsesong?? come on now.
And Daisy Duke was NOT blonde. Still waiting for the Magnum PI movie.
Yup, bring on the cheese.

Three Stooges should never be touched by anyone else the rest of eternity. I have no problem with some remakes, but their are a few, such as the Stooges, that you just don't mess with...

IT AMAZES ME WHEN PEOPLE START TALKING ABOUT "THE THREE STOOGES" AND THEIR FILMS AS IF THEY WERE REFERING TO THE HOLY GRAIL OF ALL FILMDOM. THE STOGES DID WHAT THEY DID BEST......BE STOOGES. IT'S NOT DEEP CINEMATOGRAPHY OR EVEN GOOD ACTING. IT'S "THE STOOGES". IT WAS FUNNY BECAUSE IT WAS THEM, NOT BECAUSE IT WAS GREAT MOVIEMAKING. GET REAL. GET A GRIP. AND ANYTHING MADE NOW WOULD BE A VERY PALE COPY INDEED. I'D LIKE TO THINK THAT WE'VE PROGRESSED AS A SOCIETY, RATHER THAN BACKSLIDING TO TRY AND RECAPTURE HUMOR THAT IS NO LONG RELEVANT OR CURRENT. SEQUELS ARE ONE THING, NOSTALGIA IS ANOTHER, AND A NEW STOOGES MOVIE WOULD BE.....?

The real problem is, that the Stooges were the last great practitioners of the now-lost art of Vaudville slapstick. Like stage fencing, you can see the lack of real masters, in the slapstick versions of modern productions of Shakespeare. Part of the thing that made the Stooges great, was that they were dedicated professionals who PRACTICED their craft, the way that martial artists practice. The speed and fluidity of their routines was a direct product of that skill and discipline; you can only take an eye-poke that way when you really TRUST the other guy. Adam West, who co-starred with the Stooges in their last picture, relates that the left side of Larry Fine's face was _callused_ from constantly being slapped.
Dude, you can't fake that with CGI or wires!

I just have to say one thing about this movie. In one of the 'shorts' they had a sign on their truck/business (don't rightly recall which) that read "F. N. Miracle Co. If it works, it's an F. N. Miracle." Need I say more?
