Phillips and Armstrong Now Writing Old School 2
Filed under: Comedy, Deals, Scripts, Dreamworks, Remakes and Sequels
Yes, its true. One of my favorite movies of the last few years, Old School, finally seems to be moving forward with a sequel. The movie (which Erik wrote about before) has long been rumored, due in large part to the success of the original, and Dreamworks has always seemed committed to the idea, but for one reason or another, a sequel never seemed to get off the ground. The delays now seem to be over though, at least according to IGN, as Director Todd Phillips and co-writer Sean Armstrong, who both did the original, have started work on the script for the sequel called Old School Dos. Maybe its because I was in a fraternity in college and I kinda miss those "good old days" so perfectly captured by the first film. Or, maybe its because the first film had such great comic performances by Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Will "Frank the Tank" Ferrell. Of course, it could also be that when I saw Old School for the first time (in a great theater in Portland where you can have a beer and watch movies at the same time) I laughed so hard I nearly choked on my frosty beverage.
It could be all of those reasons and any one of a dozen others, but no matter what it is, I am psyched about a sequel and look forward to seeing it when it comes out. But even though Phillips and Armstrong have started on a script, there's still no guarantee the film will get made -- or if it does, arrive at your local theater any time soon. There are many details still to be worked out, not the least of which are the schedules of Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell and a finished script approved by the actors.
Still, if Phillips and Armstrong do manage to get a script together that entices the actors to return, and Dreamworks can manage the schedules and put the rest of the pieces together, we might just see this film after all. And after seeing the film, maybe we'll swing by Bed Bath and Beyond, but I'm not sure if we'll have enough time.
Are you as excited as I am for Old School 2?

Why are you restating month old news? You even link to the previous month old cinematical story saying the same info. I wouldn't hate an Old School 2 but why talk about it until the thing is confirmed.

I think you'll get your wish, though Vaughn and Ferrrel might not be in it, probably at least cameos though. Cameos which will be all over the trailers. Phillips needs a sure hit after Scoundrels. I'd much rather have an Anchorman 2 though.

I think Old School Two would be a great Idea, just bring back Piven and Kilbourn, hell they do that in soap operas, bring back characters that died. But Farrell and Vaughn do need to come back, this will be insane.

I think it would be awesome if they made an Anchorman 2 i think that would be much more enjoyable than an OLd School sequel because it would have STeve Carell. GO STEVE!!!! O and guess wut? my cousin is going to be in a movie with STEVE CARELL and DANE COOK(not that i think he's talented or anything).

Please make 2 happen, just make sure that it's as good as the first. You may have to get the original players to commit to it. The original movie has got to be a CULT current and I'm sure one day will be a classic... Listen to Chris Ulrich, "because if i say things enough times they may happen. because if i say things enough times they may happen".
Totally looking forward to it!!!

Groupies of the movie Old School who just can't wait for the sequel? Wow, there's just something a little bit pathetic about that.

NO! NO! NO!
Old School is an amazing movie. There is no way to make a sequel that could ever rival it. As much as we all want to see those characters together again, I just don't think that there would be any way to follow up the first without either A) producing a carbon copy of the first, or B) having it "just not be that funny." Perhaps I am being unimaginative when I say that I just don't see where a new Old School movie could go. The plot seemed to resolve itself pretty nicely at the end of the last one, and to make a sequel would seem pointless, if not sacrilege. Please, leave the legacy of this classic movie untainted. (However, in case you were wondering, I do think that an Anchorman Dos holds some serious potential. Just saying.)

I love the idea of Old School Part 2! I hope it means a bigger role for the human car accident...ARTIE LANGE! At the end of the first Old School, Artie and a co-worker were just starting to pledge the frat. The writers should pick-up the story from there. Artie Lange is one of the most under-rated comedic actors today. Any movie that features Artie will not disappoint! When I look at Artie I think of the following actors...John Candy, John Belushi, Chris Farley, River Phoenix...that's just to name a few. Hopefully, Artie gets that big break to walk in his hero’s (Belushi) footsteps.
OLD SCHOOL PART 2- Starring Artie Lange (we can only hope!)

There was no Animal House 2 (thank goodness) there should be no Old School 2 either. Some things are better left alone.
