How long have we been talking about Star Trek XI rumors? The plot has changed a dozen times in rumor-land, and likewise the writers, stars, etc. However, we've recently settled on one more-or-less agreed upon plot for rumor mongers, and it looks like the long sought-after green light might finally be flickering on. Is this a good thing? Well ... who knows, really. But good or not, here it comes. IGN Filmforce says that while the project is still officially "on the drawing board," Paramount is starting to turn a We've been over this before, and opinions are all over the map. But now that we're staring down the barrel of a new Trek flick, what are you true fans really thinking?

I remember when Star Trek fans used to be the most open-minded people in fandom. Now it seems that if Trek doesn't move forward in the timeline, the most vocal of fans cry foul. The problem with Trek, IMO, hasn't been with time settings, it's been with vision, plot and story. We've had good character development. I think JJ Abrams will surprise everyone, fans and non-fans with his revisioning of Star Trek. Think about it, we've moved forward (or at least stayed in the same time) with every other Trek and ended up with dismal ratings and poor box office returns. Us "fans" by and large changed the channel and only went to see the movies once or twice. We need something new and wonderous to shake things up. JJ Abrams will at the very least do that. I'm looking forward to it and so are many of my open-minded Trek fan friends.

I have not seen a Star Trek movie in some time. A movie like this would entertain me plenty. Some of the other comments sound a little ridiculous. Star Trek is not the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Kirk and Spock are not fighting the Vietnam War anymore and never were. Liking a Star Trek movie does not make you a communist, a socialist, or a schizophrenic for that matter. I still do not know what a blog is. Does this mean that Star Trek is not for me?

I agree, let's move forward into the future with the franchise, I personally have no appetite for seeing the early years. Also, essentially this was already done with Scott Bakula's short lived series. For me part of the lure of Star Trek has always been the new and exciting technologies, worlds, politics, beings, etc that could excist in the future. Why can't you have this and still tell a great story?

I'd be thrilled to explore the adventures of the first Constitution class Enterprise Cap. Robert April and even Chris Pikes command, it's a long history, this Trek future we love.
To say that prequels have not been exploring the future is silly, plenty of post TNG, DS9 and VOY Starfleet storylines in the excellent Enterprise series.
