Michael Myers is Back in Theatres For Halloween
Filed under: Classics, Horror, New Releases, Fandom, Distribution, Exhibition, Newsstand
I've seen a lot of horror movies, and I mean a lot. Most of them weren't so great -- it was the 80's, so the slasher flick reigned supreme -- but the movie that really scared the bejesus out of me was Halloween. Released in 1978, John Carpenter continued the tradition of the "scream queen" with Jamie Lee Curtis and created (for better or for worse) an enduring horror franchise. To me, Michael Myers was absolutely terrifying -- forget Jason and Freddy, my money has always been on Michael. The original Halloween has been digitally re-mastered and will be showing at selected theaters for two nights only (October 30-31). A 20-minute extra feature will also be shown, including interviews with cast and crew right after the screening. Now, the cynical side of me says that this is just a cheap cash grab to squeeze out some publicity for the upcoming Halloween 9 (2007), to be directed by Rob Zombie. The other side of me gets the 'willies' just thinking about that theme song. What classic horror movie would you like to get the chance to see again on the big screen?

This will be a crappy digital screening ala the recent Nightmare on Elm St and Land of the Dead...save your 10 bucks and just buy the dvd.

Screw Rob Zombie's remake - for Halloween '07, I'd love to see "Showgirls" on the big screen again.

I am with APL about buying the DVD. Once you have seen Halloween once how many different versions of the same movie does everyone want to see and pay for.
Very funny Rob Zombie directing a zombie slasher.

Blatty's The Exorcist I truly believe is the scariest film ever and would love to see in the big screan(specially if the spider scene on the stairs is included).
The re-release of H 1 is a marketing plot for next year's H 9. We know how the movie bussiness works. They pull the nostalgic string from our hearts and along comes $10.75, plus $5 for popcorn and $3 for soda. But if I take my girlfriend is double that.
Rent the DVD and enjoy at home. That's what I'll do.Or pay my money and see the Departed again, then sneak into H1 and see it free.
One thing that always bothered me about the racial, religious, and sexist overtones in the Halloween series (and other slashers) is: #1 every girl that gets laid dies.#2 Black and other minorities meet their maker first.#3 White people (in the movie) get multiple warnings not to enter a scary place. Even the ghosts tell them to "get out! but they insist and ultimately get killed. Anyway, it's only entertainment. But I do wonder what's Hollywood really thinking.

Psycho, the original Hitchcock, would be great. I wish I could see Halloween on the big screen this year. I remember watching it on HBO when I was 13, alone in the dark, while babysitting after the kids were asleep. It was like a scene out of a horror movie itself. And, I enjoyed every single scary minute of it.
