Jesus Vs. Marty McFly

By now, everyone on planet Earth has seen the new video campaign ad featuring Michael J. Fox, shaking uncontrollably from Parkinson's tremors as he endorses Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill of Missouri. Fox, like McCaskill, is a vocal supporter of embryonic stem cell research and in the ad he lays into incumbent Republican Jim Talent for not wanting to cough up the dough for more funding. Now get ready for the "answer ad" that's been thrown up as a rebuttal, featuring none other than the Light of the World himself, James Caviezel. This ad begins with Caviezel directly addressing the viewer in unsubtitled Aramaic before handing off to some sports notables and television personalities, each of whom lay out reasons why the viewer must not to be fooled into supporting the measure.
Caviezel returns to close the show, gazing at us like the filthy sinners we are and warning us "don't do it." Whether you support the stem cell measure or not, you have to wonder if this kind of thing represents a taste of what's in store for us in the future -- candidates coming up with a message and then shopping for a celebrity who will endorse it on television. One day politicians will wake up and realize that our votes can't be bought so easily, right? Yeah, I know -- don't be so gullible, McFly.
So anyway, who do you think would win in a street-brawl-for-it-all between The Savior of Man and The Man Who Will Not Be Called Chicken? On the one hand, Jesus can probably time travel without having to get up to 88mph, but on the other hand, Marty can walk on water if he has the hoverboard with power.

What Limbaugh said yesterday was absurd about MJ Fox, simply absurd. His commentery can be insightful but as much as he denies it he just another spin-meister...
THAT reponse video in my opinion is a low blow, EXACTLY what you insinuate... people are idiots unless a mega-star actor/athlete lends their cred then there is SOMEONE who will listen...
I HATE that part about the POOR YOUNG WOMEN... omg, now that is AN INSULT to our intelligence...
Oh well, i'm prepared for the STAR onslaught (live in here in CA, with governor-you-know-who...

Fox is fair game. He's out there campaigning for Democratic candidates and thus has made himself open to criticism for his endorsements like everyone else. He should be more concerned with the fact that he's being openly exploited by the Dems, who always resort to tugging the emotional heartstrings when they've got nothing else to run on.
Aside from that, was it necessary to be so offensive with this post? Seriously. Why not go for broke and post something that makes of Mohammed? Oooooh, right, that might "insensitive."
Let's get back to talking about movies.

It's sad that such an important economical decision is being made on a loose set of moral code.

The embryos are going to be trashed anyway. They are NOT in the same group as others that have been adopted as Bush implied in a disgraceful press conference. The Christians lining up behind all these republicans as if they are the moral leaders of this country are the gullible ones. Yes, I am a Christian.

I THINK IT'S COMPLETELY REDICULOUS THAT OUR NATIONS FUTURE RELIES ON WHICH CELEBRITY DOES THE BEST COMMERICIAL! I'M ONLY 20 AND I ALREADY FEAR THAT MY FUTURE WILL BE WASTED BECAUSE OF THE IGNORANCE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. WHY DON'T YOU TURN OFF THE TELEVISION FOR A DAY AND ACTUALLY READ UP ON THE CANDIDATES. ACTUALLY DO THE REASEARCH YOURSELF AND NOT RELY ON WHAT PROPAGANDA IS USED? YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN IF YOU AREN'T EVEN TRYING.
YES, I AM A CHRISTIAN ALSO. AND IF I HAD THE DISEASE THAT MICHAEL J FOX HAD I AM SURE I WOULD WANT STEM CELL REASEARCH. I'VE GOT A LOT TO LEARN BUT I'M SURE ANYONE IN HIS POSITION WOULD WANT THAT.

i wouldn't say Fox was being exploited for emotional reasons.
i can understand Fox supporting research (as well as a candidate who supports that research) that can possibly help people with parkinson's... he's been doing it since he was diagnosed.
i can't understand a completely healthy person with no idea of what it's like to be dealing with that to attack him for making his support known.

Your article is *INACCURATE*. Amendment 2 has nothing to do with laying out more money for stem cell research -- public or otherwise, and Fox doesn't go after Talent over dollars. The fight is over keeping restrictions on stem cell research in Missouri no tougher than federal law. He goes after Talent because Talent has supported restrictions on the research.
Fox volunteered to do the ad. He's not asking for one public dime, just that Missouri not pass restrictions on the research over and above those that already exist at a federal level.

I am a young onset Parkinsons patient: How about a little compassion for someone brave enough to show the ravages of his disease to the public and endure what he does with dystonia and dyskinesia. Michael J. Fox and his foundation have raised millions of dollars for Parkinson's research in multiple areas. Medication is only temporary in its effectiveness. Michael has failed surgical treatment and can look forward to continuation of his deterioration and disability. Rush Limbaugh has no compassion or kindness, it is better to attack the person than the issue. Rush, you are an embarassment to all of mankind! How dare you!!!!!!!

I am sure that there are many more meaningful things to do than to be overly concerned about which celebrity is doing what ad. My recommendation is for everyone to take the time to educate themselves on the issues at hand and the candidates positions. Then, we can just be entertained by the ads. Oh, go find some place to volunteer, this will definetly keep us from the distraction of the ads.

Unlike certain Republican posters here, I'm not afraid to reveal my true identity. Michael J. Fox should be warmly commended for his moral courage to put his career and integrity on the line by offering himself to candidates who support embryonic stem cell research. Although a lifelong Democrat, Fox had the open mind in 2000 to campaign for PA GOP Sen. Arlen Specter due to his own support for this research that may lead to a cure or at least effective treatments for life-threatening diseases such as Parkinson's disease. I have always found Rush Limbaugh to be an utterly disgusting, contemptible excuse for a human being. His own hypocrisy perpetually bleeds through his pores, particularly when he makes nasty jokes about whether Fox took his medicine before partaking in the McKaskill ad. Limbaugh served time in jail himself recently for his own drug scandal, while Fox has no such sleaze in his own background. I found Fox's ad very disturbing and several medical specialists in the field of Parkinson's patients attested in the past few days that his shaking symptoms are actually side effects of the drugs. Had he not taken these necessary drugs, he would become paralyzed and unable to speak at all. It's only a matter of time before the worst pain & suffering wracks his entire body, all the more tragic for such a young talented actor. Anyone who would insinuate that the Democrats are exploiting him by having him partake in these ads promoting embryonic stem cell research gravely insult his intelligence. Having testified at length before Congress on this issue, he is amply intelligent and informed enough to make his own decisions. I'm sure his decision to campaign for Claire McKaskill and Ben Cardin was strictly due to their support for this vital research, just as it was for Specter, and by no means any partisan ploy. Jim Caviezel & other actors who join Limbaugh's underhanded attacks should be ashamed of themselves. If they are truly "Christian" or "pro-life," they would applaud Fox's efforts and live by Jesus' maxim of "He who is without sin shall cast the first stone," and "Judge not, lest thee be judged."

Sorry, Mr. Fishman. Despite your attempt to make yourself feel better by quoting Scripture and having selective morality on this issue, stem cell research that destroys an embryo in the process is the key issue, NOT the overall research itself. Nice job with the lib talking points, though.

If you'll excuse me, Mr. Fishman, I'm pretty sure Limbaugh has never served time. He checked himself into rehab after becoming addicted to painkillers during two sequential cochlear implant surgeries, and then surrendered himself to police to confess "doctor-shopping" during his prior addiction. This resulted in a fine, but there was no trial and no jail time. I don't like to defend Rush, but check your facts first.

I also was diagnosed with Young-Onset PD. No history of it in my family...it just happened. It has affected every part of my life, it will progress and debilitate taking away bits of me from that diagnosis 7 years ago, until the day I die. I take 13 pills a day to try and appear somewhat "normal" and I also have the sideeffects of the meds, the dykinesia, or involuntary movement. People say, oh well, be positive, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow, well I know I'm going to get hit by that bus, but just don't know when. I am a mother of 2, a daughter, an auntie, a cousin, a living breathing human being that people are counting on, that has contributed to the community and worked hard. Why is it that some of you think that a clump of cells on a dish, not implanted in a womb, this clump that will never know parents in the biological sense, has more of a right to live than me?
Are there not enough starving, homeless children in this world already? Why don't you go save some of them?
As our population ages, PD and other ddiseases will occur much more. All I can say, is maybe this needs to happen to you before you will understand. Somedays the only thing that keeps us going is hope, and even so, we have to fight for that.

The reason why many conservatives are still defending Rush Limbaugh's attack is because they are afraid to admit Michael J. Fox's other statement is true: that the majority of Americans support Federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. So their attack on his method is a smokescreen:

What this also means is that the Rush Limbaugh attack supporters are Fascists.

I live in Missouri & will be voting for Jim Talent and NO on 2. Intersting how Mr. Fox pronounced the name of our state as "Missoura" and not Missouri, for people from this state that's a sure sign if you are "from here" or a transplant. Mr. Fox was attempting to sound like he was a local. I'm sorry for his illness and others who suffer with the diseases they "hope" stem cell research will one day cure but it drives me crazy when I hear John Kerry and others make statements that Christopher Reeves will "get up and walk," and then if the funding isn't provider by the tax payers that it's the evil right who have doomed these folks (Reeves, Fox, and ordinary citizens). HEY, stem cell research is NOT illegal here in "Missoura," it's just up to private researchers to fund. If cures were as sure as the supports make it sound, why isn't private industry jumping on this like a "chicken on a June bug?"
