Another Batch of National Treasure Gets Created This January
Filed under: Action, Disney, Remakes and Sequels
Back in August I shared with you the entirely un-shocking news that the $173m-grossing National Treasure was about to earn its very own sequel. Today comes word from mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer that A) NT2 would begin shooting in January, and B) the plot has a lot to do with Abe Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth and the 18 pages that are missing from the beloved President's personal diary. Beyond that, we don't know a whole lot.Early word does indicate that pretty much the entire cast is returning for the sequel, which is generally a good thing. Especially if your cast includes the likes of Harvey Keitel, Jon Voight, and (mmmmm) Diane Kruger. On the caveat emptor side of the equation, the IMDb is reporting that the screenwriters who worked on National Treasure 2 include Greg Poirier (See Spot Run, Tomcats, A Sound of Thunder) and the married writing team of Cormac & Marianne Wibberley. They worked on I Spy, The Shaggy Dog, Charlie's Angels 2, Bad Boys 2 and the original National Treasure. Also returning is 3 Ninjas / Cool Runnings / Instinct director Jon Turteltaub.
And I'm betting the sequel doesn't get unfavorably compared to The Da Vinci Code, like the first one did. Because let's face it: The Da Vinci Code stunk.

It's very nice to hear this news of a NT2 in the making. This was a very intriging film and I really enjoyed the History aspect even if it's make believe it gets the word out there about the Freemasons Society which is very fascinanting in it's self. Anyway It's interesting you disliked the DaVinci Code but to each thier own I always say. That's another subject altogether. Is Nick going to be returning as well? He was very good and could even do more action films. Wasn't National Treasure out B-4 the DaVinci code movie?, so I felt no connection to the two at all just a thought on that. thanks for hearing me out K

Well I'm glad to see that NT2 should easily prove to be as bad as the first one. Taking a look at the movies that are associated with the screenwriters and director, should quickly tell you why the first one was so bad, and how bad the next will be. National Treasure had to be one of the worst movies that I have ever seen. The only thing that made it bearable to watch for me was the fact that it was only myself and two of my friends in the theater when I saw it. Lets just say it was Mystery Science Theater style improv for us.

Your right Al, of course it sucked. Yes. None of that $173 million was from re-peat viewers, or people who liked it enough to buy the DVD. Nope...
Obviously I disagree with Al. As most everyone I've ever talked about the movie with has loved it. Great story, good laughs and everything. Was really hoping for a second someday, and hearing this now really is exciting, especially since all the characters are coming back.
Oh, and with that last line... so YOU'RE the guy(s) who do that crap in theaters ruining the movie for others. Yes... I just love making fools out of them for doing that.

I enjoyed National Treasure. Sean Bean was great as a villain in the film, it did have some good acting. Nicholas Cage was good, it was just a fun movie to watch. It may not have been Oscar material, but I enjoyed it in the theater and bought the DVD. I also really liked The Da Vinci Code, I thought it was excellent. Viewers and critics generally have different ideas on what makes a film good. Of course, it's the viewers that really matter.
