Trek XI Already Hitting Scheduling Problems?

If I didn't know better, I'd swear God Himself has an active interest in preventing Star Trek XI from ever making it into cinemas. Perhaps God is nothing more than a Trek hater; but I'd bet He heard rumors of the "Spock and Kirk in Starfleet Academy" plot and just doesn't want to see further injustice visited upon the once-proud franchise. After ages of debate, plot changes, script treatments, and corporate infighting, it seemed as though for better or worse we were finally destined to see a new movie. Heck, even old William Shatner was suggesting he might pop in for a brief cameo. We were told wheels were turning, and to expect a script by October, with filming in the spring and a Summer 2008 release.Well in case you didn't notice, October came and went with no finished Trek script. Raise your hand if you are surprised by this ... anyone? Yeah, me neither. However, despite Shatner now claiming he won't be involved, director J.J. Abrams promises the light is still green. They still hope to be able to begin filming in spring, and meet the summer release date, although Abrams is now hedging his bets and saying he wouldn't mind a winter release. Naturally, summer is the season of the blockbuster, and Star Trek desperately needs a good box office return if they want to breath life back into the dying franchise, so all due haste should be made.
So are we finally staring down the barrel of the next Trek film, or are we destined for another string of delays and cancellations? It seems as though Abrams and company are rather serious about this project, so this is probably the best shot the franchise will get at another major motion picture in the near future. If this team can't pull it off, I don't know who can. I'm not saying they'll do a great job, I'm just saying they've got the most potential for actually making a film happen. Excited or scared, fanboys and girls?

The studios have lost touch with what the fan base wants to see. This is evident in the way they produced "Enterprise" with no concern to timeline details created in the other trek shows and movies. The Trek fans are a devoted bunch, but there is only so much they can take.

The studio should look into "strangers from the sky", at least they can use Bill and Leonard along with the new Kirk and Spock to make a credible movie that the fans can pardon the appearance of a new kirk and spock.

As a loyal "Trekee" from the begining I can say that I am anxiosly awaiting Star Trek XI. My love of Star Trek is for the characters, the story and the entire fantasy! I am able to see past such human boundaries as new actors, etc.Lets have a positive attitude and embrace this encore gift from the galaxies beyond without picking it apart!!!!

Why not a deep space nine movie or voyager movie? That would have been the next best bet for a movie? I am a TOS fan but disagree with going back in time for kirk and spock. Its been done before. Deep space nine would have been a great reunion movie or Voyager back in the delta quadrant. Well thats my opinion anyway.

We all know Spock served for a long time with Capt. Pike on the Enterprise. So how can he and Kirk serve together at the Academy? And how is it this has never been mentioned. Spock did not seem to know anything about how Kirk solved the Kobiyashi Maru scenario.

The core Trek fans gripe no matter what the studio does. Anything that strays minutely from their complete collection of Trek DVDs is considered sacrelige. Maybe it is time to let this franchise die. It's not like Gene Rodenberry invented space opera. He got half his ideas from Forbidden Planet. Just do a similar space opera and slap another name on it. That way all the irked Trek-fans who speak fluent Klingon won't get their tribbles in a bunch.

My 2cents is to wrap up the franchise with a whiz bang ST TNG/Voyager 3hr storyline where Picard retires after one last universe in crisis successful adventure and the Enterprise sails off with Janeway at its helm into the sunset.
