National Lampoon and Farrelly Bros. Team for New Pic
Filed under: Comedy, Deals, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand
The Farrelly Bros. (remember, they had that one good movie called There's Something About Mary back in 1998?) are teaming up with National Lampoon (sadly, I believe we have to travel back into the 80s in order to dig up the last piece of quality entertainment from these folks) on a new comedy called Bag Boy.
What's essentially an attempt by National Lampoon to revitalize their brand, pic marks the first of four films annually National Lampoon plans to shovel out -- all of which will be packaged together and produced inhouse -- a rarity for the 36 year-old company. According to CEO Daniel Laikin, each flick will have a budget of around $12 million or less and they will focus on developing properties found within their magazine, which ceased production in 1992. So, not only will the comedies be bad, but they'll be based on extremely old ideas. Yay!
As far as Bag Boy goes, it appears they're taking the only funny thing about Employee of the Month and stretching it out into a feature film. That's right, pic will revolve around the world of competitive grocery bagging. And, while I don't want to depress you any further, I do have to note that the script was re-written by Mort Nathan -- yes, as in Mort "Boat Trip" Nathan. Production will begin next year, and there's currently no word on whether the Farrelly Bros. will also direct or strictly produce.

two words for you VAN WILDER.... that was a funny movie. and it spawned a sequel.
not only is your report have falsified info it also doesnt show the merit of comedic legends such as the Farrelly brothers.
so instead of knocking it, get your head out of john stewarts ass for a second and give somethings a chance before knocking it... its called being objective.

Two words for you my friend: What the hell does Jon Stewart have to do with this whole thing?
Also, how is my report falsified? It is my opinion that the Farrelly Bros. made one truly hilarious film, and have slowly gone down hill from there. It is my opinion that National Lampoon haven't had a funny comedy since the 80s. And yes, that includes Van Wilder -- sorry, but I did not think that film was funny, regardless of whether or not it spawned a sequel. Animal House was funny. Vacation was funny. Van Wilder was cheap crap, designed to get people to pay money to watch college girls take off their shirts and Ryan Reynolds to make an ass out of himself.
Ask Jon Stewart, I'm sure he agrees.

that was 13 words and i aint your friend bub...
did you like Harold and Kumar goes to White Castle? no? well then you are humorless. Van Wilder was the reason he got this part. and can you please tell me at least 3-4 scenes in any other TEEN comedy that doesnt have girls shirts being taken off? what are you a bra burner?
John Stewart - why i was bringing him up is it is obvious by your writing style is aping some of his diatribes from teh Daily show. why bloggers need editors.

I live in SLC. On the day before Thanksgiving, I was out doing a bit of early morning shopping with one of my kids . We saw a tent with balloons being set up in the store parking lot and wondered what that was all about. Someone inside the store told us that a National Lampoon movie called "Bag Boy" was being filmed. When we came out, there was the Lesbian Bagger Competition being shot. We laughed our heads off. All the people on the set, including the actors, had mega-watt smiles for us. We can't wait to see that film. The snippet we saw live was hilarious.
