Superman Vs. Brainiac, Not Zod?

A small but very interesting rumor popped up over at the Moviehole mailbag, in response to a reader's question about Bryan Singer's Superman sequel. Since the early days of Supes sequel news, we've been led to believe the sequel would feature the proud cinematic return of one of the franchise's most beloved villains -- Zod. Naturally, the thought excites most Superman fans, and it makes sense because he's one of the characters which transcends the comic pages and is familiar to most of the general public due to his previous film appearance. Mailbag Clint, however, has a different story for us.Keep in mind, this was dropped in a one line answer with no real sources cited, so get your big old grain of salt handy before you react, okay? He claims the next major villain to challenge Brandon Routh's Superman will be none other than Brainiac. Brainiac, in one form or another, is a long established character in the DC universe, and a favorite of your faithful Geek Beat writer (insofar as I pay attention to DC Comics, that is). But is Brainiac a strong enough villain to carry a major motion picture? I think so, but my opinions are notably skewed by my fanboy nature. What say you, good readers?

Only a quick comment: Bringing different villains into the story makes for fresher fair. We have had enough of Lex Luthor. I think Brainiac is an excellent choice for a villain.

Are any of Superman's enemies big enough, other than Lex and maybe Zod, to be the sole villain in a movie?

Brainiac would be an awesome villan all depends on presentation ( late silver Age robot! ) ALL THOUGHT PERSONALLY : depends on origins of brainac could prove a good two movie story If Brainiac is from Krypton IE: Smallville and animated series it could revive Zod's Powers and be major player in a third movie HEY SINGER THINK IT OVER !!!!!!

Brainiac is a good choice, but I think none other than Darkseid would be able to carry the movie as a villain. Besides,Zod has already been done. No one is going to top Terrance Stamp`s performance, just as no other Joker will beat Nicholson`s.

Luthor is always in the background, ready to take advantage of any opportunity, especially involving Supes. And he has acted as 'the inside man' for Braniac in the past, to give him the help to beat Superman, in exchange for power/wealth etc.
So Brainiac makes a lot of sense. But which one?
I always liked the earlier more human looking version with the electrode headgear, but that's too Silver Age for today's movies. So, go with the silver robotic version, the living ship etc. And forgot what was done in Smallville. They are so far off canon, it's not even funny. It's good - just not the real Supe/Clark back story.

Hey Mr.Singer,I`m a huge, huge fan of superman.Superman returns was #1 in my view. But for part 2,Good idea, now you could bring zod back, but I always said why don`t the producers let Superman fight his comic enemies. The original Brainiac,WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!That could be the match of the century. But if you want some ideas,I would put either The Braniac or Darkseid.Darkseid always gave superman his battle. But Mr.Singer,Do what you need. But if you give the part of braniac, what a great idea.If you want to e-mail me,victoriousdaniel@cox.net.
