Cinematical's Seven Days of 007: A Recap
Filed under: Action, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, James Bond, Remakes and Sequels, Seven Days of 007

If you happened to have missed any of our fantastic James Bond coverage over the past week, we've put together a groovy little recap for ya. Because we're good like that. And because we know how annoying it can be to have to search for stuff. And because we love our readers. But enough of the ass-kissing, let's move on to the ass-kicking -- as in, Casino Royale exceeded expectations and totally rocked. Turned out Daniel Craig was perfect for the role, and Eva Green won't shut up about the sequel (which she likes to call the "second Bond film." Honey, it's actually the 22nd Bond film ... but who's counting, right?) Feel free to tell us what you thought of Casino Royale, Daniel Craig and this new direction for an aging franchise. I dig it. Do you?

Exceeded expectations? I'd say it fell well short of them. Craig was great as a new Bond, but the film was still as big a mess as the past few Bond films--tonally uneven, peppered with contrived dialog (I have no armor left... you've stripped it from me!--puh-lease!) and all-too-familiar action scenes. As a big fan of Bond I'm thinking that if Bond 22 doesn't get a LOT better, it might be time to retire his license to kill...

If I wanted a revamped 007 movie I would have asked for one. I knew going in to watch this film that I might not like it. Craig is a great action star and if he had a whole new spy role made just for him (like the famous Sean Connery) great. But no gadgets, no incredibly wicked villian, no weird scheme to take over the world or terrorism? Then why am I watching this crap, and if I wanted to watch a lot of action based around some card games I can go and get the season DVD of Las Vegas from Blockbuster. Also, Craig plays the darkest Bond ever. Dang, smile man smile! How can you flirt with the ladies if you look like a ex-KGB interrogator. I want Bond old fashion. So bring back the playboy, the gentlemen's gentlemen, and action packed crazy spy movies we are used to.
