When did protecting incredibly thin-skinned idiots from inadvertently (or not) being near Christian symbols become the paramount purpose of the government? Why would anyone consider atheists, Jews, Hindus and Muslims to be so feeble as to need this kind of protection?

Wow. I mean, I'm Jewish but I still think this is ridiculous. Just 'cause I don't celebrate Christmas doesn't mean I'll be offended by Nativity movie posters, especially right in the middle of a Christmas event. Who thinks that us non-Christians need to be coddled that much?

(Now, saccharine Christmas songs constantly playing from the radio of every establishment starting as early as a week or two BEFORE Thanksgiving I could do without, but that's a taste issue, not a religious one.)

I work right down the street from Daley Plaza. LEt me explain how rediculous this is - they have a full nativity scene : mary, joseph, animals et al that would make clark griswold jealous right on dearborn st - clear as day - you would think they were ADVERTISING Christianity the way this thing is displayed. The entire set up is CALLED Christkindl which is something German.

I think someone in Daley's administration made a bad choice they probably wish they could have back right about now.

For those who don't speak German "Christkindl" means "of the Christ Child." Hmm ...

That said, I think the only proper response to this PC nonsense is for all of the Christian shoppers to be offended, and boycott the festival. Obviously the promoters fear some kind of financial set back from non-Christians not shopping. Why not demonstrate the folly of the attitude.

I'm Christian and I support gay rights, so do the priests at my parish for that matter. I've sat with a Moslim praying at sunset on the side of an interstate highway, just because he looked too alone; and he appeciated the gesture even though I prayed my way and he pray his way. And, of course I have a host of friends who believe in many other faiths. We even have rational discussions of what is different about our faiths without resorting to harsh words or violence. Amazing isn't it?

1.) Liberals think all truth is relative.

2.) Liberals think that all human conflict and suffering are caused because of people who believe that truth is absolute.

3.) Liberals think that all people who believe in absolute truth are either a.) Stupid b.) Evil or c.) Both.

4.) Religions believe truth is absolute. Therefore liberals believe that religious people are stupid, evil, or both and must be defeated in order to prevent conflict and suffering from occurring.

5.) Liberals hate ALL religions equally, although they attack Christianity specifically because it is the most successful, and therefore the most threatening of all religions to them.

6.) Liberals think that once they defeat Christianity that all other religions will ultimately fall as well.

What liberals fail to realize is that some truths are absolute and that some religions are better than others. The very fact that we celebrate individual human rights and freedom in the Christian world is a DIRECT result of the fact that we believe Jesus' life was divine. By accepting Christ's sacrifice we believe that we are saved by him in that we attain kinship with him in the eyes of the Lord. Therefore it is only logical that efforts to impose the sinful will of human tyranny upon other individuals is tantamount to trying to dominate the will of God himself and therefore all together abhorrent.

There exists no other concept in any other world religion, and in some - namely islam - the exact opposite philosophy is taught.

It is no accident that the Christian world is the free world. The Christian world is the free world BECAUSE IT IS CHRISTIAN. If you want the short version of this faith look upon the example of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. MLK died so that black people could be free in America in his lifetime. Jesus was MLK on a global and timeless scale. Jesus died so that everybody, everywhere, could be free forever.

I hope for the sake of your average Godless liberal that hell isn't permanent or at the very least they will have the chance to repent one last time after they take their very first steps into the next life.

Everybody should read #4's post...it's not about having a "few symbols"...it's about re-enacting a moment in their faith...now if that isn't proseltyzing...if you Christians would just take a step back for a moment and realize how you alienate people of other faiths with your "in your face" type attitude, maybe you'd understand why there's a need to tone it down. As for removing Christianity causing a downfall in America....we'd all be far better off if we removed all the right-wing Fundie fanatics, that's for sure!

Jade, what is funny is that we don't need to be "in your face" anymore.

What exactly do you think the constant riots in France are all about? Do you realize that in 30 years at least - AT LEAST - 1/3 of all Europeans (both East AND West) will be Muslim? And why? Because Europeans have abandoned God and are - quite literally - dying off as a result. The native European birthrate is halving - HALVING - with every generation. The muslim immigrants are tripling and quadrupling. No marriage, no family, no kids, and abortions used daily as a form of birth control - all fully supported by liberal ideology as a willful abandonment of God - are killing off an entire continent of people.

In our lifetimes you will see the atheist and exclusively secular Liberal vision that Europe has embraced whole-heartedly bury what was once an strong and enlightened society.

There's no need to be "in your face" anymore Jade. All we need to do at this point is sit back and watch the show.

And for your information the Liberals in Europe are in fact quite gladly handing over their humanity. They aren't marrying, they aren't starting families, and they aren't procreating. Incidentally, the same thing is happening here in America. It's not an accident that Liberals have been losing political power consistently over the past 30 years in this country. Conservatives are out-breeding them. We are getting married, maintaining strong families, and having lots of kids - just like God says we should.

Call us simple, call us stupid, call us self-righteous - but at least in 30 years we will still be around to call us as such. Liberals have decided en mass to "Check Out" as it were, by not getting married, not starting families, and not having kids.

They're sitting around in starbucks, sucking down coffee, and quietly going extinct.

According to Christians, sex education is the leading factor for teenaged pregnancies in America. Teaching children about condoms and such has promoted the birth of too many children. Sex education is a "liberal" comcept. And we "liberals" are breading out of control. Its Liberals who are having the most children in this country, not you god "aka money" loving conservatives. By your christian teachings a country which starts sex educaion at a young age and promotes sexual freedom for its youth should infact be busling with millions of little liberal children. So obviously by your christian teachings your statements are false. And since condoms are 100% inefective (another christian lie.. um I mean teaching), European births should easily outnumber anyone.
Bottom Line. Your Arrogant, and your ignorant.

First of all Ed, let me say how terribly sorry I am to hear that you liberals are "Breading" out of control. I imagine if you keep that up to long you'll wind up with crumbs all over the place and perhaps a very nasty yeast infection.

Secondly, nobody is being fooled here Ed. Guys like you will encourage 14 year olds to have sex without their families knowledge or consent, and then turn right around and encourage them to get an abortion without their family's knowledge or consent. It's all just sex and death, sex and death, sex and death with liberals.

And facts are facts my friend. The native (post-Christian) European birthrate is 1.3. The muslim immigrants they import to support their overwhelmingly burdensome tax structure is 3.5.

The picture is similar for "Red State" and "Blue State" Americans. The average American birth rate is 2.1 - with "Red States" all being above that average, and all the "Blue States" being below that average.

I know these facts you uncomfortable, and understandably angry. For decades liberals have wandered around believing that their vision of "Progress" was inevitable - only to find that their lack of will to do what is most basic in life - to PROCREATE - is turning out to be their ultimate undoing.

Millions of marriageless, childless, liberals stuck in what is essentially an eternal senior year of college with NO future generations to replace them. Liberalism is by nature, and indeed by definition, a suicidal ideology.

It may be a little tactless and blunt but it's just reality plain and simple. Liberals as a general rule don't procreate because they don't believe human life is sacred. As demography is proving both in Europe and America they are going the way of the Do-Do in the long run.The tree that cannot bear fruit will be cut down.

I believe god is love. You have quite willingly chosen hate, racism, and the need to feel superior over the other masses, instead of believing god is love.
Your beliefs are no better than anyone elses. Their are millions who believe in a christian god, but they don't behave or hate the way you do. Your only one person amongst billions, and if your going to disrespect a billion people, than don't go crying when a billion people starts treating you the way you treat them.
