Rachel McAdams is Pepper Potts?
Filed under: Action, Casting, Fandom, Scripts, Comic/Superhero/Geek
There are probably a good deal of you out there who read this headline and thought to yourself "Who the heck is Pepper Potts?" I'm sure most of the readers who regularly check Cinematical for geek news are familiar with the girl, but for those of you who check it for the other 95% of our content, we'll give you a quick filler. Pepper Potts showed up as Tony Stark's (that's Iron Man) secretary back in the 60s, and had a mad crush on the man for years before eventually marrying* a guy named Happy Hogan, who was both an employee and friend of Stark/Iron Man. So really, the short answer to the question of "Who is Pepper Potts?" as she relates to cinema is probably "The love interest and main female lead for Jon Favreau's Iron Man flick." This means the part is likely a hot commodity, because superhero flicks are all the rage, and everyone wants in on them these days. Iron Man may not be Spider-Man, but the title certainly carries a fair amount of prestige and has a shot at being quite a successful flick. As the title of this post obviously indicates, Rachel McAdams is rumored to be the lead horse (probably a poorly chosen metaphor) in the race right now. Does she want the part? Who knows. But the part seems to want her, as Latino Review reports she has been offered an exclusive read-through on the script for her immediate attention. Opinions?
*And there's a whole story in their relationship as well.

Piper Perabo will probably play Pepper Potts. Actually, no, that's just fun to say.
Surprisingly, I find Rachel McAdams talented, though she hasn't found the right vehicle yet. I'm not sure this is it, but she would do fine, just the same.

My thoughts? Rachel McAdams could be in any role...I mean ANY ROLE...and the movie would be worth seeing. She could've been the freaking Machinist and she would've been hot.

I second Chance McCla's comments. And third them and fourth them.

I'd pay to watch Rachel McAdams read the phone book for 2 hours. Even my wife thinks she's that hot.

Rachel McAdams would be awesome in any role, I was holding-out hope that Tim Stoy would cast her as Crystal (the Inhuman) in Rise of the Surfer. Tim has gone with Frankie Raye as the Torch"s love interest instead.

I like Rachel McAdams and thought she was good in her other movies. But, I don't think she is right for this part. Do you really see her paired up with Robert Downey (Tony Stark)?

I posted this in the official Pepper thread on the Myspace page, but it bears repeating as this rumor gains traction. Nick Cassavetes, her director in The Notebook, was attached to direct Iron Man before the rights reverted back to Marvel. He’d also been revising the earlier Millar, Gough and Hayter draft.
In addition, Downey stated in an interview with Coming Soon several weeks ago that he was looking forward to working with the actress playing Pepper, suggesting the role had already been cast. I still think that it’s plausible LR’s report is based on outdated information.
Hopefully, as the rumor grows, Marvel will deign to confirm or deny, as they’ve been very quiet on the project lately. IMO, McAdams is a boring yet acceptable choice aimed at getting MTV awards and bringing in the demo that Downey’s name won’t.
On the Myspace page, Favreau requested casting suggestions from the fans giving no hint to what degree Pepper would feature, which wasn’t quite fair. I’m hoping Pepper isn’t given much of a spotlight, outside of supporting Stark during his eventual intervention. Iron Man needs to distinguish itself from its DC forebear, Batman; casting such a name puts her uncomfortably into Katie Holmes-territory. People don’t flock to superhero flicks to see an unnecessary subplots revolving around unrequited love, (Spider-Man aside; no PP without MJ). I would hope Favreau’s got all that out of his system after the perfect Swingers.
I also agree with Daman, I think the role calls for a contemporary of Downey's, not someone who looks like his daughter. But anyone who participated in the Myspace thread will have their favorite.
All fanboy bitching aside, can... not... wait... for this flick. Metric tons of potential for the genre. Pretty sure the Avengers flick will revolve around this one's performance.
