Julia Roberts Sold Separately
Filed under: Drama, Casting, Deals, Fox Searchlight, Newsstand
While she's been limited to voice work for the past two years and hasn't physically appeared on screen since Ocean's Twelve, Julia Roberts is everywhere right now. She's currently gearing up for a major comeback -- My Best Friend's Wedding-style -- and will be kicking off Roberts Revival 2006 with a role in the live-action film (yay!) Charlie Wilson's War (which actually comes out in 2007, so we might need to revise the Revival year). Following that, Roberts will be starring in an adaptation of The Friday Night Knitting Club, and she's also developing a live-action film surrounding those American Girl dolls. Oh, and at some point she will settle down in order to Eat, Pray, Love. Busy much?
Well, tack on another one for Roberts, because Variety reports the actress will produce and most likely star in another adaptation -- the best-selling novel Happiness Sold Separately (cute title, eh?), written by Lolly Winston. Scott Coffey (who made his directorial debut with last year's Ellie Parker) will adapt and direct, while Fox Searchlight is in negotiations to distribute. If she takes the role, Roberts will play a suburban wife (as soon as you hear that character description, you instantly know someone is cheating on their spouse) whose marriage begins to evaporate after her husband -- wait for it -- has an affair with the nutritionist at their gym. Sexy ... yet, sad. I dig it.

I never could get into her. I liked her in Closer and in Pretty Women. Everything in between was just okay.

I know what you mean, you just cant beat those big stars their producing now. Lindsey Lohan? please, someone has been lying to her all these yrs.Her mother has no clue to what talent is. Julia Roberts is a true starlet, up there withLauren Bacall, she's the one that will last, the name we will still be hearing of in yrs to come.

Julia Roberts has been sorely missed on the big screen. No other actress can compare to her talent for brightening up the movie theatres with Romantic Comedies that have wit and pathos, glee and sex appeal! I just hope she knows that her forte is in comedy and doesn't make the mistake of trying her hand at another dreary, dead-serious drama (ala disease of the week movie).

I think Julia Roberts is a natural. Funny bright, pretty and talented. I have watched Erin Brockovich at least 6 times. I believe she is at her best in comedy but I will watch her in anything. Way to go Julia. Welcome back!

Oh, no, the tooth woman is back? I thought she was gone to take care of her kids. I can't take that huge toothy mouth, it's just too big and fake and in every picture it's wide open like she's ready to swallow the whale. I guess she's good - I liked Pretty Woman and Erin Brokovich but that was it - everything else...just mediocre..

Hey Joe, I believe the movie you are thinking about is "Knotting Hill" Unsure of if is is Knotting or Notting. I loved that movie. I am not a huge Julia Roberts fan, but I do like many of her movies. One of my very favorites is "Something To Talk About" I loved it. I liked Pretty Woman, but now I just can't seen to sit through it. I must admit though, I loved Runaway Bride.

She is a phenomenal actress! Her smile lights up a room. My family went to New York in June to see her broadway debut which had mixed reviews. Thunderous applause as she entered the stage! She was stunning and as natural on stage as she is on the big screen. What an amazing woman! I am glad she is returning to the big screen!
