Transformers Trailer!

It's here, it's finally here! Terminator 4! Oh wait, I meant Transformers! That's right, the long-awaited trailer for Michael Bay's Transformers has finally hit the net ... and it looks pretty good. There's no gut-wrenching music, mind you, Bay wants you to watch this thing in silence (save for the explosions and other random dialogue) in order to fully immerse yourself in the intensity of the situation ... or something like that.
What are we getting here? Well, we're getting the typical government roundtable discussion where this country's top leaders finally realize they're under attack by giant robots from outer space. We get a bunch of the characters' "Holy crap, what the hell is happening!?' facial expressions as the robots land in front of them. We get a little taste of the robots themselves (hardcore fans might be able to tell who is who -- the only one I knew was Optimus Prime, in which we only catch a two-second glimpse of from behind. Drats.) Of course, we get the little kid minding her own business in an empty backyard when ... yeah, exactly.
Based on what Bay decided to show us, I think the film has potential. I'm certainly impressed with the direction he decided to go regarding the robots, and that will definitely add an old school edge (one that fans will enjoy) to the pic. Yeah, I think I dig it. What do you think?
Note: Keep in mind this is only the UK trailer. We'll provide a link to the US trailer (hint: they're probably exactly the same) once it's up on Yahoo!

Horrible. From bad dialogue ("Or we will kill you...") to really bad robot models, this doesn't have anything interesting to show us. Blech.

This looks like exactly what it needs to be. A movie with giant robots tearing it up. I was a huge fan of the toys and cartoon as a kid, and I still pick up the occasional comic, so I have some investment in everything being 'true' to the existing characters. If you give me a good explosion filled summer blockbuster, I'm willing to give way on details.
If the character designs change (and they have), but the fun is still there, and the basic heart of the matter (giant transforming robots from outer space) is still there, I'm willing to give them my money with a smile.

Yeah, just fork over your money proving to Hollywood once again that the viewing public will pay for whatever crap is thrown on screen. Do you wonder why summer blockbusters aren't as great as they once were? This is why.
Just putting giant robots on screen does not make the movie Transformers. Hell, that could be a Gobots movie. I'm fine with giving the movie a new story, I'm fine with some (SOME) alterations to the robots themselves but the foundations should stay the same. Prime is a snub-nosed rig, Bumblebee is a VW and Megatron is a gun.
If you're going to make a Transformers movie, make it right. Otherwise, make a giant robot, action, buddy, summer blockbuster flick and make up a name to call it. But please leave the serious efforts to people who know what they're doing.

jsa, please explain to me how megatron being a gun would realistically work in a feature film. It was a good idea to sell toys, sure, but The main villain of the film turning into a weapon for soundwave to use? It doesn't even make much physical sense, soundwave would have to be 4 times the size of megatron to even be able to wield him. Some things work for the cartoon, but some things have just gotta change.

Megatron was also a tank.
Then gun thing was silly then, and is silly now.

bgdc, even the original transformers was full of aweful dialogue. In fact, how can you have a great summer movie without it?!?! Dont be so angry.

Transformers will dominate... just hopefully like others have said... they don't focus on the Humans rather than the Transformers themselves... Kids who grew up in the 80's will want to see this... same for them diehard fans... Other than that... it should be OUTSTANDING!
