The Worst Trailers of the Year
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Drama, Family Films, Movie Marketing
If you read this site very often (and my stuff in particular) you know I don't like going out to the movie multiplex as much as I used to. When I do venture out, I'm usually at some sort of screening and so I'm not exposed to one of the things I actually miss about going to the movie multiplex -- trailers.A good trailer can make you excited to see a film just like a bad one can make you wonder how something like that ever got made in the first place. Maybe somebody lost a bet or something? Sadly, we'll probably never know. Good or bad, interesting or ridiculous, trailers are still one of the most effective ways to market a film and build awareness of it out there with the public.
Without trailers, the public would have to rely on word of mouth or the press to help them decide which movies to see. Believe me, no studio wants that -- so instead, we get trailers. Over at iFilm they've listed their top-ten worst trailers of the year -- at least according to iFilm users. Some of the cinematic gems represented by this list include Employee of the Month, Zoom and the superbly bad Codename: The Cleaner. Hey, how did that movie get made? Did someone lose a bet or something? Enjoy.

Trailers are cruel things. You sometimes see one and think, "This movie must be something incredible!" and then you watch it and wonder if the person that made it is stupid.

It is annoying, when I go to a movie & must sit through 15-20 minutes of previews (when did they become "trailers?") Or worse, advertisements!
Occasionally, I see a preview that intrigues me. "Ratatouille" is a fantastic preview! I'm glad it's on the "Cars" DVD so I can watch it repeatedly. I told my little ones that if "Ratatouille" is rated G when it is released in '07, I WILL take them to see it.

When I go to a movie theater, I always hope there will be lots of trailers so that I will know something about the movies that are coming to that theater. That along with the reviews on Ebert & Roeper help me decide if its worth spending the money. What I hate when I go to a Regal theater is all the ads I have to sit through. It's bad enough to have to see them on TV without having to pay the high price of a movie ticket and have to see them again.

I channel changed through and stopped at NOTHING BUT TRAILERS... I think it's on HDNET or something like that... it's on several times a week... I don't know how often they change it out... but you seen 1/2 hour of nothing but trailers...
I missed those, too, by not going to the cineplex... but the stale air, sticky floors, and rude others don't always thrill me.

I enjoy trailers (named because they were originally shown after a movie in the theater many years ago) and I especially liked COMING ATTRACTIONS on the E! Channel which ran for 14 years until they abruptly canceled it a year ago to make room for more celebrity gossip shows (E! is pretty much unwatchable now. Too bad). One can see all the new trailers on line, though, so all is not lost.

Where's Let's Go To Prison? That should have been in the top 3.
