Discuss: The Best Movies of 2006
There was blood, sweat, tears. Alliances were forged, enemies were made. Some edit meetings resembled scenes from 'Apocalypto' (minus the wild boar bits). But the Moviefone staff has emerged (mostly) unscathed with a communal ranking of the 50 best movies of 2006. Yes, there really are 50 great movies that came out this year. We swear.
Check out Moviefone's Top 50 Movies of 2006, then tell us what you think.

I am HORRIFIED that you didn't recognize the amazingly well acted, moving film "The History Boys." I've seen a lot of movies this year, and many were very good. But the only film of the year that has had me still thinking about it ever since I saw it was this one. Shame on you for choosing several PR-driven, no-content star turns while completely snubbing this intelligent and witty movie!

Why is Babel hardly on anyones list and 24 on this one?. This is one of the finest films I have seen since Spielberg's Munich, not to mention the strong message that they both gave off. Babel's message is more awakening than Munich's because it deals with cultural diversity, not really terrorism (even though terrorism was presented in it). For those reasons and the reason that this movie is a genuine original story and is carried by superb acting and directing, I would have placed this in the top five. P.S. You could have moved United 93 up a few slots as well.

United 93 at 18? What! It should be number 1. It is the only film that is leading all of the critic awards!

My favorite films of 2006, in twenty words or less:
10. CARS- A solid, if not entirely ambitious foray from Pixar, who has yet to fail. The visuals are superb, and the story swept me in.
09. A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION- It isn't ambitious or carry messages like Nashville or MASH, but Altman's last film is a easily entertaining gem.
08. A SCANNER DARKLY- A twisted, original look at the effects of drug addiction in a scarily realistic dystopian future. And wait, Keanu is good?
07. LITTLE CHILDREN- AOL said it right: the topic has been beaten to death. This is a fresh, extremely affecting, superbly acted look at Suburbia nevertheless.
06. MIAMI VICE-Mann's truest vision, and a deep, complicated, (very) subtley emotional film that explores the effects of crime on the psyche.
05. SUPERMAN RETURNS- The best comic-based superhero movie yet. An almost unfathomable success on every level.
04. BORAT-Borat make for funny! Moviefilm is make you laugh off butt, please you see...
03. THE FOUNTAIN-It brings the crazy. A haunting romance supported by godly music, direction, and camerawork. Flawed, but beautiful, transcendent, and emotional.
02. UNITED 93-The most soberingly affecting film of the year. A simple masterwork.
01. THE DEPARTED-The most complex, best-acted, consistenly enthralling movie this century. Not just year, century.

First of all, the top ten seemed a little more like "my brained shrank to the size of a bee-bee and rolled out my ear". Secondly, if these trully were the best movies of the year, I doubt 'Borat' would be anywhere in the top 30. Who were the panel or voting members of this particular list. The movies were in such random order, I was wondering if it was every other film which was relatively descent. Here would be my top 2: 'The Good Shephard' and 'Dreamgirls'.

V FOR VENDETTA- It didn't get very good reviews, but I loved it. And personally, if Borat can get as high as it did, then V should at least be on the list.

While I do believe that most of these films do in fact belong on the list, I just don't believe that this was put in any actual sensical order. It seems to me that they just picked 50 movies, wrote something nice about each of them, and drew out of a hat as to where they would be placed.
I do think that Brick, The Departed and A Scanner Darkly do belong here. But while I loved Beerfest, it doesn't belong on any "best" movie list, unless it is strictly comedy.

I agree whole heartedly with "The Departed" as the # 1 pick, "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Apocalypto" right up there too. But where is "Running with Scissors" then along comes "The Good German"!!!!!

Angie Argabrite said that she did not miss Don Jonhson and Phillip Michael Thomas in the new version of Miami Vice(Starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx)The actors did not resemble the originals from the 80's.
Hollywood is obsolete by playing the monopoly game.(Look at Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Aviator"). That's why I like Apocalypto. Mel make us believe the story by casting new faces on the silver screen. What would you think if Leonardo Di Caprio or Brad Pitt play the Mayans in the movie Apocalypto? That would be also a monopoly game. By the way, I do miss the music of Miami Vice and the original actors too. Perhaps, those absence make me believe I was watching some kind of any police movie, except Miami Vice.

I think the list was stupid most of those movies didn't deserve to be on there.
I think it's even funnier though that alot of the movies picked were anti bush/military/troops.
criticizing all the troops have worked for doesn't make it in my list jack.
Out of that list I picked 10 movies I'd call great for 2006.
