Lucas Gives the Green Light: Indiana Jones Claims May 2008!
Filed under: Action, Classics, Remakes and Sequels
So after years of waiting, wondering and whining, now we get the word from George Lucas himself. The as-yet-untitled Indiana Jones 4 will begin shooting next year. Seems that Lucas and Steven Spielberg have finally signed off on a screenplay they like, and Paramount has already circled May 2008 for the release date. Obviously Harrison Ford will be returning to play the globe-trotting troublemaker, most likely for one last hurrah ... but boy it'll be fun, I bet. That's all the real news we've gotten so far, but stop by ComingSoon.net to see their full report.
For those who've been living exclusively in the arthouses for the past twenty years, Indiana Jones is the swaggering hero found in three Steven Spielberg films: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). All three flicks represent a whole lot of old-fashioned adventure-time fun, but it's the original that still holds up as maybe one of the best movies ever made. (It just never gets old. Trust me.)
Long in development, the fourth chapter has been semi-promised for ages, and the lengthy screenwriting process has involved the likes of Tom Stoppard, M. Night Shyamalan, Chris Columbus, Frank Darabont, Jeff Nathanson and David Koepp -- although I bet there were even more than that. Rumors have been running rampant about the project for years (Kevin Costner as Indy's brother!?!) but just last week Lucas said "It's going to be the best one yet."
Yeah, we'll see about that.

First. Last Crusade holds up equally as well as Raiders. Trust me. Sean Connery makes it amazing.
Second. The only way Indiana Jones 4 will be able to even come close to the magic of any of the original three films is if it does not contain a hint of computer animation. Since that is probably not even going to be an option I'm just going to hope for another generally entertaining action adventure with Harrison Ford.

The original Raiders is the best...the third was pretty good except for Alison Doody (she disappeared fast) and the second was silly in a lot of parts. I just hope the old boys live long enough to shoot the darn movie. I'm sure Calista will give Harrison the physical boost he'll need to shoot such a picture at his age. Sadly the computer effects will most likely dominate the movie if Lucas lets the ILM boys go wild. It was fun to watch when Harrison was the hottest male actor on the planet in 1981. All the Botox in the world couldn't make that happen again.

I agree, Harrison Ford is getting on in years to be swinging from vines and climbing up rock walls. There needs to be a younger man involved, like when Sean Connery was the father and Harrison Ford his son. The combination worked great. All these laters and Indiana Jones is still top notch.
I hope they don't cast Kevin Costner as the younger brother. After Costner exposed himself and masturbated in front of the masseuse in Scotland (on his honeymoon no less, lucky bride his wife is), it would taint the project in my opinion. Every time I look at Costner, that's all I see, that horrible image of him holding the massuse's hand so she couldn't escape until he had his happy ending. Let's hope they choose a better, more honorable man to play in Indiana Jones.
I'm glad they are making another sequel. I'm really looking forward to it. I just hope they stay true to the original story idea, which was outstanding.

I totally agree with the first poster...please no computer effects or at least very limited. The Star Wars series was ruined by them and Id hate to see that happen to Indy.

thanks Paula, I didnt have that particular piece of information about Kevin Costner in my head, but now thanks to you, I can vividly picture that happy ending in my head now, over and over again. Now if you will excuse me, I have to extract the images out of my head with a very large drink
