De Niro and Clooney Together at Last?
Filed under: Drama, Casting, RumorMonger, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand, George Clooney
One of the greatest things about the film Heat was our chance to finally watch two fantastic actors (Robert De Niro and Al Pacino) act alongside one another. Of course, it wasn't the first time these two Godfathers of cinema appeared in the same film, but it was a moment everyone (including me) had been waiting for. And tell me that scene at the table didn't make the movie.
Now, word is trickling out via MTV and Production Weekly that De Niro might be teaming up with another mega-Hollywood giant, George Clooney. Okay, perhaps it's not as jaw-dropping as the De Niro/Pacino pairing, but nevertheless they're still a delicious on-screen duo. The film in question is Marc Forster's (Stranger Than Fiction) 36, a remake of the 2004 French flick 36 Quai des Orfèvres starring Gérard Depardieu. Pic tells of two cops who compete against each other to solve a series of armored car robberies, with the winner earning a promotion. At first glance, the premise could sound sort of comedic (if you hadn't heard of the original) -- however, I assure you this ain't no comedy. It's a straight-up crime drama, complete with violence, revenge and all that other tasty stuff. De Niro recently told MTV that he will film 36 (which will be based off a script written by The Manchurian Candidate scribe Dean Georgaris) after he's finished with the Barry Levinson pic What Just Happened.
Here's a question: In your own fantasy world, which two actors (or actresses) would you like to see paired up on the big screen?

Jessica Biel and Alyssa Milano...wait you said big screen not home video. In that case I would go with Pacino, Travolta and Nic Cage. I am curious if in a battle of over actors, when one gets out done if their head would explode.

I believe Heat is the only movie where De Niro and Pacino appear in the same scene.

Myron, yes it is. But they have both appeared in the same film, just at different time periods - hence the Godfather reference in the post.

Jessica Alba vs. Rosario Dawson and the movie is about two girls from different social status who fight to become the winner of the International Wet Shirt contest and they have to make their way into the finals by undressing more and more... and after that sweet dream...
The movie you're talking about has violence for sure but it also reminds me of The Shield because it's the story of "corrupt" cops who bend the rules to beat the bad guys with all its consecuences. The french movie was an acting duel between two of the most famous french actors: Daniel Auteiul http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000809/ and Gerard Depardieu http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000367/ with a strong revenge content. A very good movie which doesn't need a remake btw. Hollywood should try to invent their movies because remakes are boring and sometimes copycats that don't add anything (The Departed)...

Edward Norton and Russell Crowe.
In fact, that pairing came under consideration. Early in development for "Fight Club" a producer flew to Australia to meet with Crowe and discuss the part of "Tyler Durden" which ultimately went to Brad Pitt. I'm not sure if Norton was attached to the "Narrator/Durden" role, but if those two were cast, you can bet there would have been some sparks on the set.

Well, to change tack and talk about the actual casting that's happened for a bit:
I think a Clooney/DeNiro 36 Quai des Orfèvres redo could be very very cool. I wonder who's playing who; having already seen Infernal Affairs I figured Damon and DiCaprio should be the other way round when their Departed orientation was revealed, though I would concede that they did actually get it right now that I've seen Scorsese's picture; Damon, in particular, was fantastic. The equivalent knee-jerk here would be Clooney in Auteuil's role and DeNiro in Depardieu's. So maybe that would be better the other way round too.

Looney Clooney said in 2006 that he was proud to be a traitor to the USA! They couldn't pay me enough money to watch this bum do anything. How come he doesn't hate the USA enough to leave?

Brad Pitt and Val Kilmer, add Pitt to Heat and that would have been quite a movie.

Ralph Fiennes and Ray Liotta, don't know of any bigger names in Hollywood and for good reason. Ray Liotta acting like he did as a cop in NARC is untouchable in my opinion. Ralph Fiennes can play anything, anywhere.
For the women, Helena Bonham Carter as a bad cop put against Kristin Scott Thomas as the good cop. Helena was awesome in FightClub and Planet of the Apes(among others). And Kristin is the next Meryl Streep.

Denzel Washington and Laurence Fishburn in something worthy of their combined talents.
Alfre Woodard and anybody, I would love for someone to give this talented, sexy and excellent actress a film role she could sink her teeth into. She is too good for Desperate Housewives.

I would like to see Paul Newman and Al Pacino teamed up as two old gamblers in a final competition in their waning years, gritty and tough.

I would truly enjoy seeing George Clooney and Johnny Depp teamed with Ashley Judd. All three of these fine actors were born in Kentucky. Appearing in a movie about Kentucky would be the icing on the cake.

Please do not suggest Jennifer Anniston for anything having to do with a good looking man. she seems to have a way with dumping them and then getting in the feel sorry for me line.... Personally I think she is worse than white trailer trash............
