Battlestar Galactica Movie Confirmed by Producers
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Newsstand
The title of this post says it all. According to an interview given by exec. producers Ron Moore and David Eick in the Chicago Tribune, they are developing and will be making a feature film version of one of the best shows on television: Battlestar Galactica. The film, which will feature all the same cast and crew, will bridge the gap between the TV show's third and fourth seasons. It will not, however, resolve the cliffhanger left at the end of season three which, according to Moore and Eick, "will take the show in a new and shocking direction."Now, before you get too excited about the new film and go out and starting rioting in the streets celebrating it, I'm not talking about an actual theatrically released movie here -- at least not yet. Which is too bad because it would be really cool to see the show on the big screen. Although, it does look pretty great in HD now so I guess I'll survive without the big screen experience if it never comes. What I am talking about, however, is still a movie but one that will most likely go directly to DVD and also be shown on the Sci-Fi channel. So, not exactly a movie in the strictest sense of the word but still, close enough for me and, I'm sure, any fan of the show.
According to Moore and Eick, they will go forward with the film unless, for some reason, the show does not come back for a fourth season. In that case, the film is off and they will both be looking for work. As you may know, I love Sci-Fi and Battlestar Galactica is a great show that deserves all the exposure, versions and incarnations that it can possible get. So, I'm pretty excited by this announcement. Not rioting in the streets excited but . . . . Oh, one more thing. The interview also gives away some details about upcoming episodes of the show and what may happen to certain characters so if you don't want to know any of that stuff, stay away. In other words, spoiler alert! Don't say I didn't warn you

You just had to go and get my hopes up with a headline like that. Really what you're telling us is that there will be a special 2-hour episode of BSG, not a movie.
LAME
Now, if we could see some BSG in the movie theaters, then I'd be excited. Otherwise, I'm no more excited than I am for a new episode of BSG, which, imho, is the single best show on TV.

When is the confirmation about season 4 supposed to happen? I know we're nowhere near being done with season 3, but I would guess a formal announcement would happen before long, right?

How can Moore make a feature film based on the re-imaged Battlestar Galactica? Glenn A. Larson owns the theatrical rights to Battlestar Galactica!!! Not only does Moore continue to try to convince viewers that what he produces is Battlestar Galactica but now he's going to horn in on Larson's territory!!! I'm sorry but that's wrong!!! I can't wait for Larson to make a movie based on the one and only Battlestar Galactica and that's the one he made, not Moore's tripe.
GO Larson!!! True fans are still out here and waiting!!!

You know what? If Ron Moore is doing Battlestar than he OBVIOUSLY has the RIGHTS to do it. He's not an idiot. He's not going to just blurt out "I'm going to make a film for Battlestar and just sidestep all the legal procedures involved in getting permission." He isn't stepping on Larson. The new show is well done and is a tribute to the fans and to the one and only creator of BSG. SO STOP YOUR BITCHING.

As a big fan of both the original series and the new re-imagined version (which is one of the best things I've ever seen on TV), I think there is definitely a huge market to bring out a film based on the original series (including some of the original cast).
That would be great - a blockbusting film aimed towards more of a family audience. Everyone's a winner! Just gimme all the Battlestar Galactica I can handle - I'm hungry for more.

It's a movie for Television you dullards! And by the way...the original BSG has nothing and I mean nothing on the new series...it's like comparing "My LIttle Pony" with "Raging Bull."
