Lost Boys 2: When Vampires Surf
Filed under: Horror, Warner Brothers, Home Entertainment, Remakes and Sequels
Ever since Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys became a fairly big hit back in 1987, fans have clamored for a sequel. For years we heard vague rumors about a potential follow-up called The Lost Girls (a script for which was allegedly penned by none other than Joss Whedon), but obviously it never came to pass -- which seems kind of weird considering that The Lost Boys grossed over $32 million domestically before turning into one of the most widely watched cable flicks of all time. (Then again it's always tough to do a sequel to an ensemble piece, particularly when half your original cast went on to become, well, instant has-beens.)But now, according to exclusive word from IESB.net, it looks like we'll finally be getting that Lost Boys sequel -- only it looks to be arriving in direct-to-video form. All we seem to know so far is that a) production will begin in San Diego very soon and b) the plot has something to do with Surfer Vampires. Yep, vamps on boards. Throw some bank robberies in and we could call it Point Break 2: The Lost Vampire Surfer Gang.
More details as they become available, although if you think Jason Patric or Kiefer Sutherland are coming back for a DTV sequel, well, you're nuts. The interest/availability of Corey Haim, Corey Feldman and Jami Gertz might be an entirely different story.

Wait--*surfing* vampires? Couldn't you just wait until they were out catching a wave and have a priest bless the ocean?
That is how holy water is made, right?

hahaha yeh i think ThePete has a really god point there, they could just bless the water.
I have beem a huge fan of Lost Boys for years, and i have been eagerly awaiting a sequel, but surfing vamps, c'mon.
This just sounds cheesey, plus im gettin the idea that its going to have nothing to do with the first movie at all, maybe if has at least one member of the original cast or a continuation of a storyline i might be up for saying it's a sequel, if not, its just anothr vampire movie, not a Lost Boys sequel.

I really hope that this will NOT be direct to video, and they actually put thought into this.Ive waited for this to happen for so long, and I think that they could make a really good movie if they want(same town, bring back some of the cast, great soundtrack)PLEASE DO NOT TREAD ON THE ORIGINAL BY MAKING THIS ANOTHER STRAIGHT TO VIDEO HORROR FILM.If the hitcher can be remade, and coming to theatres, then they can definitely make this a kick @$$ movie.

This is blasphemy. How dare they. Lost Boys fans have been waiting patiently for a sequel that many thought would never come due to the fact that the vampires that played such an important role in making this movie such a hit for the first and second generations of fans will not be shown because they bit the bullet back in 1987.
However the fact that Warner Brothers and co are going to throw the Lost Boys legacy into the mud just for the sake of making a quick buck is not going down easy with the Lost Boys Fans. Everyone knows the Lost Boys is a cult film and has a large fan following, and for once horror movie fans are going to make a general outcry about this.
If Lucasfilm decided to make a Star Wars 7 straight to dvd release about boogie-boarding wookies and jedis, the entire world would probably tremble as the Star Wars fans howled for blood and justice. Safe to say that movie would not be made.
Now it's our turn.
All we can do is hope that the sequel will not be as big a taint on the Lost Boys as everyone thinks it will be. I'm keeping my fingers crossed here.

Don't like the idea of a Lost Boys sequel? Then help to (attempt to) do something about it.
