Oscar Noms: Who Was Snubbed?
Filed under: Awards, Oscar Watch, Hold the 'Fone
I'm totally with you, Leo -- I'd be p***ed too if I were you. No Best Actor nod for 'The Departed'? I'm floored. And what about 'Dreamgirls' not making the list for Best Picture possibles? Or the total absence of 'Borat' -- do you care? Or Brad Pitt's absence from the Supporting Actor list? What was the biggest snub, do you think? Talk about it here
Get the full list.

I think Dreamgirls wasn't snubbed at all: it's a hugely over-rated, ordinary movie. People look to Chicago winning Best Picture in '02 as a similar situation but the difference here is that Chicago was a much, much better film. The songs in Dreamgirls had incredibly repetitive, insipid lyrics, even by Broadway musical standards.

The fact that Pan's Labyrinth only got a screenplay and foreign film nod (as far as the heavy categories go) is utterly shameful.

Children of Men as Best Picture was a shoo in for me.... what the hell happened?
That damn trailer ruined the movie, i saw it on a hitch for a free screening and my jaw dropped after seeing how well the movie was made.

Dreamgirls was a good musical picture, it was NOT a great picture. And for the record, "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge" should have NEVER been nominated for Best Picture either. They should have recognized actress Victoria Rowell for "Home of the Brave" and I miss the nomination for old Jack in "The Departed" but ya know....'da rats' run Hollywood!

Leo was not Snubbed he got a nom that he should not have. He has done good work in the past but this was not his year. However Matt Damon was overlooked in two films, He is a fine actor. Also Dreamgirls should have been in the place of Little Miss Sunshine. It was a fine film. Also Children of Men should have been in place of Letters From Iwo Jima I know not an easy thing to do but a better film. And last of all Volver should have been in place of Water for FL film.

I think that We Are Marshall should have been nominated for something. Do people not know what a good movie is anymore? Dreamgirls-really? I don't even think I will rent it it looks so uninteresting.

Children of Men definitely! It should take Oscars home with cinematography and editing. But I think it would have been quite serious contender within the best picture nominees. Especially when there's that higly overrated Little Miss Sunshine.

Obviously Almodovar got the shaft. Not even a foreign language nom? That typically only happens if he's ineligible.

Children of Men definitely.
Steve Carrell for Little Miss Sunshine.
And I think Dreamgirls is overrated. I hope the buzz dies soon.

Thank goodness Brad Pitt and that weirdo he has been living with were not picked. Pitt has gone in the pit since his association with her.

I would have preferred seeing a Best Director nom for Little Miss Sunshine instead of (or in addition to) Best Picture -- by leaving it out of Best Director, it smacks of sexism, since it's the only film with a female director (well, co-director, but still).
Agreeing with Christopher Campbell on the "Volver" omission -- that's just weird.

Dreamgirls was a nice movie but didn't knock me off my feet. It was a pleasant 2+ hours of entertainment with some really good singing. Period.

I think Borat's Mustache should have been nominated. One of the best mustaches around in my opinion.
